The Tacoma Screw Products project involved a multi-phased replacement of the company’s headquarters on Center Street in Tacoma. Soil-nail walls were constructed before slab-on-grade pours and subsequent forming and lifting of 31 tilt-up concrete panels because of the site’s 18 percent grades. All panels were raised and secured within three days. During construction, Tacoma Screw remained open. When the new 63,000-square-foot concrete shell was built, company employees moved in and the old plant was demolished to make way for a 100-stall parking lot. The finished project includes 44,000 square feet of warehouse, 13,000 square feet of offices and 5,000 square feet of retail. Over 24,000 work hours were logged without an accident. Finalists in the category included the Pacific Northwest Regional Council of Carpenters’ headquarters in Kent and the Eucon Corp. office building in Spokane. |
