The exterior of the Tactical Skills Training Building features a blend of concrete and steel. |
The building was designed to both contain errant bullets and the sounds of gunfire. That was achieved using a two-layered, insulated structural tilt-up concrete panel system. Most exterior walls are concrete sandwich panels with an inner panel of 6- or 8-inch load-bearing concrete, an inner insulation layer of 3 inches, and an outer panel of 3-inch architectural finishing concrete.
Concrete helps stop errant bullets inside the Tactical Skills Training Building. |
The project team included: State of Washington Division of Engineering and Architecture, owner/developer; D'Amato Conversano, structural engineer; Lugo Construction, general contractor; Schreiber & Lane Architects, architect; Steckler Construction, concrete contractor; and Stoneway Concrete, ready mixed supplier.
