Journal staff

Eleven construction projects received recognition at the 1999 Washington Aggregates and Concrete Association Excellence in Construction Awards banquet held May 13 at the Bellevue Hyatt Regency Hotel.

There were 11 winners in 10 categories, plus a Grand Award winner. The winners were selected from a field of 35 by a jury panel made up of last year's award winners. Entries were judged on creativity of structural and architectural design; construction efficiency, speed and economics; effective incorporation into the surrounding environment; overall aesthetics; and unique solutions provided by concrete.

Selected as the Grand Award winner was Benaroya Hall in Seattle. Other category winners included: the Duwamish River Bridge, an intersection project on state Route 395, an access project at Beacon Rock State Park, a warehouse for Diane's Foods, the Tactical Skills Training Building, a Tacoma home in the Street of Dreams, a juvenile fish bypass project at Bonneville Dam, two personal residences and REI's store at Redmond Town Center.
