Cushing Terrell announced the promotion of associate Sandi Rudy to director of the firm's interior design service sector.
Rudy will be responsible for strategic direction, business development, and high-level client relationship management; staffing and workload management; mentorship and career development for team members; and the overall success, health, and growth of the service sector.
During her time at Cushing Terrell, Rudy and her team have partnered with some of the world's largest companies, including Google, Facebook, Dell, and Apple, supporting their future-forward workplace designs.
To support the growing team, two other Austin-based interior designers, Angelica Henderson and Eleanor Smith, have been promoted to regional leadership positions.










PACE Engineers, Inc. announced 10 promotions.
Shane Sheldon, PE, has been promoted to principal engineer. Sheldon is a water resources engineer with 14 years of experience. He has been with PACE since 2019 and leads the Water Resources group. He holds an undergraduate degree in geology and a master's in water resources engineering. Sheldon has extensive experience in fish passage design, including complex fish ladders, intake systems for hydropower projects, stream restoration, and fish passage culvert replacements in Washington and Oregon. He is currently leading hydraulic designs for WSDOT fish barrier correction projects throughout the Northwest.
Tom Ferrell, PE, has been promoted to project manager. Ferrell has been with PACE for 15 years, focusing on Oregon municipal projects. He has recently designed three reservoirs, four pump stations, and six miles of water main for local public works agencies.
Rosanna Brown, PE, has been promoted to senior project manager. Brown has 16 years of civil engineering experience, specializing in land development. She joined PACE five years ago and is leading the design for several assisted living facilities in West Seattle, Sammamish, and Woodinville, as well as several large apartment complexes in North Bend, Shoreline, and Everett. Brown was appointed to the Snohomish County Planning Commission in January 2022.
Mitchell Boyd, PE, was promoted to project engineer. Boyd joined PACE in 2021 and has seven years of civil engineering experience. He is currently designing several water and sewer system projects. He supports our planning group with comprehensive water and sewer system plans and water plan extensions.
Colin Nicol has been promoted to environmental scientist. Nicol has over 11 years of fluvial geomorphology and physical habitat assessment experience. Before PACE, he was the lead developer of the NOAA lifecycle model, which prioritized restoration actions in the Chehalis Aquatic Species Restoration Plan. Nicol brings a strong background in river restoration, salmon ecology, and the scientific literature underpinning these disciplines. He is currently leading the habitat design of the SR 167 to 509 Riparian Restoration Program. The project will advance the use of beaver dam analogs to aid in restoring approximately 150 acres of aquatic and floodplain habitat.
Dean Stampfler is now a senior survey technician. Stampfler has been a part of the PACE team for 13 years. He plays a significant role in the successes of the survey team, specifically on projects across the Pacific Northwest, notably Washington's fish passage and Oregon's transportation projects. Stampfler's daily tasks include coordinating and dispatching survey crews and collaborating with other disciplines within PACE.
Tasha Wang, PE, was promoted to senior engineer. Wang is an design engineer specializing in water resources engineering. She holds a master's degree in hydrology and hydrodynamics from the University of Washington. Wang has been a crucial part of PACE's Water Resources group since 2019 and is a technical lead for hydraulic modeling. She is currently leading preliminary hydraulic design reports for WSDOT fish barrier projects and supporting design-build fish passage and stream restoration projects.
Andreas Olshausen, PE, has been promoted to project engineer. Olshausen has nine years of civil engineering experience and joined the PACE team four years ago. He is a key contributor in designing water system improvements for special utility districts and reviewing developer extension plans.
Paula Welly was promoted to business development specialist. Welly joined PACE at the peak of the pandemic in 2021. Her ten years in the AEC industry have helped her navigate PACE through various business development and marketing projects. Welly's natural leadership skills have played a vital role as she has worked with PACE's disciplines to develop business development strategies.
Christian Nichols, PE, has been promoted to project engineer. Nichols has over nine years of civil engineering experience and has been at PACE for five years. He is a main player in our land development projects. One of his recent projects, Ellie Passivhaus in Queen Anne, Seattle, won NAIOP's Sustainable Development of the Year award- Nichols was the project engineer.

Michael Herseth has joined Ware Malcomb as a civil engineering manager in the firm's Seattle office. In this role, Herseth will help lead the growth and management of the Seattle civil engineering team and manage select projects.
A registered professional engineer in the state of Washington, Herseth brings over nine years of experience to Ware Malcomb.
Prior to joining the firm, he worked as a civil associate for an engineering company and was responsible for a wide range of development projects throughout the Pacific Northwest. Herseth's expertise spans a variety of project types, including multifamily, affordable housing, mixed-use, healthcare, education, infrastructure, roads and trails. His experience includes all phases of site development and civil engineering design, from concept design to contract documents and contract administration.
Herseth is a registered Professional Engineer in Washington and a member of both ULI and DBIA. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Washington State University.

Caleb Champion has been hired as an intern architect at Architects West. He brings over 10 years of leadership experience from the fabrication and construction industries to the firm. Champion earned his Associates of Applied Science Transfer Degree in Architectural Technology from Spokane Community College. He previously worked for local design and fabrication companies in Spokane.
He has a special interest in design as well as construction administration. Some of Champions current projects include schools in Wallowa, Washington and Ione, Oregon, and Mountain View Bible Church and Atlas Housing in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.




Seattle Design Festival announced its incoming slate of design leaders who were elected to fill seats on its Board of Directors. These new directors will provide the strategic leadership required to advance SDF's mission “to unleash the design thinker in everyone to illuminate Seattle's challenges and ignite action.” The four incoming board members are Jenny Jau, Jeanette Gatlin, Jake Woland, and Mark Chubb.
Jenny Jau joins as director of finance. Jau has worked in product leadership roles for Redfin, Amazon, and Yahoo. She has an MBA and has been a nonprofit board member in the arts space. Jeannette Gatlin joins as director of development. Gatlin is a UX designer with Google and has also worked for Microsoft. She wants to support Google's involvement in SDF and develop the relationship. Jake Woland is the new director of m ember advancement. He has over 20 years of experience as a landscape architect and design leader. He regularly lectures at UW and is the author of a textbook on sustainable site design. He has worked across a wide variety of urban conditions and scales, including waterfronts, civic open spaces, transit facilities, streetscapes and mixed use and commercial projects. Mark Chubb joins as director of development. Chubb is the former director of technical services with Code Unlimited, LLC. He is an experienced emergency management and public safety executive with diverse professional, technical and academic experience in public, private and non-profit organizations.

Mayer/Reed, Inc. announced the promotion of Shannon Simms, ASLA to associate principal and shareholder of the Portland-based interdisciplinary design studio. Simms is a landscape architect and leader in active transportation and urban design projects. She joins principal and owner Jeramie Shane, ASLA in leading the firm's landscape architecture and urban design group. Together with principal and owner Kathy Fry, SEGD, who heads the firm's visual communications group, the trio is forming the next chapter of Mayer/Reed's leadership.


In celebration of the firm's 35th Anniversary Dean Kelly and Gunnar Gladics have joined Rice Fergus Miller's ownership team. Gladics brings over 20 years of experience as a regionally-recognized designer for emergency response facilities. His deep knowledge in the field is rooted in his many years as a volunteer firefighter and EMT. His focus, Gladics said, is on designing for the health of firefighters with an eye on innovating for the future. Kelly has extensive experience designing housing for specialty communities, such as regional Tribes or for seniors.


Wittman Estes has welcomed two new employees. Emily Hagen joined the firm as an architect. Hagen is a licensed architect and has lectured nationally and internationally on innovative building technologies including advancements to the world of mass timber. Her award-winning conceptual design for a cross-laminated timber high-rise building were published in the book “Timber in the City.”
Hagen received her Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Tech and attended the University of Oulu's Modern Nordic Architecture program. Her design experience spans a diverse scale of work including houses on Bainbridge and Camano Islands, a midcentury renovation in West Seattle, commercial projects across Seattle and San Diego, prefabricated mass timber projects across Washington state, and healthcare developments in rural Haiti and Guatemala.
Her current projects include Studio Nebraska, new mixed-use building in Georgetown with CLT construction; Hideaway, a custom home in Coeur d'Alene and Montlake Renovation, a home remodel and backyard redesign in Montlake.
Heather Crain joined the firm as an architect. Crain holds a Master of Architecture and a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies with a minor in Construction Management from Washington State University, where her thesis focused on design through the lens of spatial memory. She is a licensed architect in Washington State and enjoys returning to her alma mater as a guest critic or participation in Mentor Days at WSU's School of Design and Construction. She has nearly 10 years of experience leading residential and commercial projects from conception to construction.
Her current projects include, Mercer Grove, a new custom home on Mercer Island; Highland Park Improvement Club, a rebuilding of community center in West Seattle and The Overstory a new custom home on Marrowstone Island.
