Olsen-Bieberstein Communications Inc.

Greg Olsen and Lori Bieberstein have announced the creation of Olsen-Bieberstein Communications Inc., a Seattle agency specializing in advertising and public relations services, design and production of special events, and trade show and convention management. Since 1986, the firm has operated under two different names: Gregory B. Olsen & Associates and Olsen Communications. Along with the name change and incorporation of the business, Bieberstein was named vice president of the firm.

Construction management

The University of Washington is holding a free June 9 information meeting about its evening master's program in construction management. The meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. in Room 322 of Gould Hall, on the university's campus. The program is designed to meet the construction industry's need for professionals with advanced technical, management and applied research skills. Working professionals and others with bachelor's degrees in building construction, construction management, civil engineering and architecture may apply for the program. Individuals with construction industry experience and related degrees such as law, business administration and other engineering disciplines will also be considered for admission. Applications for September 1995 admission are being accepted on a space-available basis through July 15. PCA symposium

The Portland Cement Association is teaming up with the National Science Foundation and its Center for Science and Technology of Advanced Cement Based Materials to present a symposium for college faculty. The Third Annual Symposium on Teaching the Materials Science, Engineering and Field Aspects of Concrete is scheduled for July 9-12 at the University of Cincinnati. The goal of the program is to promote teaching civil engineering students the latest material about concrete and cement materials. Educators and industry representatives will introduce current research, effective teaching tools, computer modeling, and laboratory demonstrations to college faculty members. CREW-Northwest

Commercial Real Estate Women-Northwest is featuring Constance Proctor and Mark Reddington at its June 14 luncheon at the Seattle Sheraton Hotel & Towers. Proctor is a partner with Alston, Courtnage, MacAulay and Proctor, and a member of the Seattle Concert Hall Design Review Committee. She will discuss the lease issues surrounding the new concert hall and how the "deal" was structured with the city of Seattle. Reddington is a partner with Loschky, Marquardt and Nesholm, the project designer for the concert hall. He will share some history behind the project, design concept, and evolution of the current design. Registration begins at 11:45 a.m. and lunch follows at noon.

Bay West Group, a San Francisco-based design center ownership and management group, has hired Lynda Coile as property manager of Seattle Design Center and Seattle Gift Center. Both facilities are managed by Seattle Market Center for Bay West Group. Previously, Coile worked with Polygon Management Inc., Kirkland; Koll Management Services, Bellevue; and The Sammis Company, Seattle.

Marjan Companies

The Bellevue-based Marjan Companies, including Sales Center Concepts and Design Decor, received two "Reggie Awards" from the Builders Association of the Twin Cities for interior merchandising and sales center development on behalf of Lundgren Brothers Construction, one of the largest home builders and development companies in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area.

Local winners for recycling programs

Washington Recycling in Everett, the Boeing-Everett Division Commercial Airplane Group and the Solid Waste Management Division of Snohomish County Public Works were honored this month by the Department of Ecology for their solid waste reduction and recycling programs. Washington Recycling, which won the award for Best Recycling or Buyback Center, have recycled over 155,000 tons of material and paid the public over $5 million for those materials since it opened in 1972. Boeing-Everett won for Best Business/Commercial Waste Reduction & Recycling programs. The company saved $570,000 last year by recycling 57 percent of its total potential waste stream. Boeing's 777 airplane was designed by computer, saving tons of paper and plywood. And, Snohomish County received the honor for Best Public Information or Education Program for its activities during Recycle Week last October.

AGRA Earth & Environmental Inc.

AGRA Earth & Environmental Inc., an international engineering and environmental corporation, has named David Mastroieni to the new position of Corporate Business Development for its Materials Engineering Group in the Portland office. He will oversee the marketing efforts throughout the Western Region of the United States and Canada. Mastroieni has 11 years of Materials Engineering experience and has held senior marketing and business development position throughout the West.

Jacobs Engineering names subsidiary head

HOUSTON (BW) -- Michael J. Higgins has been named president of JE Remediation Technologies Inc. (JRT), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. Higgins was formerly vice president of Federal Programs for Jacobs Southern Region. Prior to joining Jacobs, he served as president and chief executive officer of Hazwaste Industries Inc. Earlier, Higgins was chief of the Point Source Analysis Branch of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. He will be responsible for managing JRT's commercial and federal remedial construction business to accommodate client requirements for site cleanup and closure. His mission will be to combine Jacobs' environmental services and process engineering capabilities with the firm's construction work force, currently numbering 8,000 personnel in the field. JRT will lead Jacobs' efforts in completing all current remedial action contracts which together constitute more than $500 million of backlog. Headquartered in Pasadena, Calif., Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. is an international engineering and construction company with over 30 offices in the U.S. and abroad. Jacobs established JRT in 1994 to focus its construction expertise on environmental remedial action contracts in the private and public sectors.
