R.W. Beck's environmental services staff in Seattle has a new director -- Ron Topazio. He is a professional engineer with nearly 30 years of experience in marketing and managing major environmental and engineering projects. Topazio has worked on large projects in the past involving hazardous and solid wastes with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Bonneville Power Administration, and others.

The Metropolitan County Council's Utilities and Natural Resources Committee this month will hold four workshops/public hearings on the 1995 Executive Proposed King County Park, Recreation, and Open Space Plan. The proposed plan is designed to enhance the county's role as a regional provider of parks and recreational facilities by preserving open space corridors, while working with cities to develop plans for transfer of ownership of the 112 parks and 14 pools that are located within city limits. Local suburban city mayors and council members have been invited to participate in these meetings. The workshops and public hearings are scheduled as follows: today in Bothell's Ricketts Building; June 21, Kent Senior Center; June 22, Bellevue City Hall; and June 29, Burien City Hall.

John L. Scott's Laurelhurst office has added Bella Pozina and Thomas Law as new sales associates. Pozina has recently taught computer science at both the high school and university levels in Russia. Law previously worked as a software engineer.
Terry Miller, managing broker of the Coldwell Banker Bain Associates' Capitol Hill office, has earned the national designation of Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager (CRB). Miller also chairs the Seattle Council of the Association of Realtors and Bain's committee on preparation of agents new to the firm.

Kathy Kendall has been hired as public relations writer and editor by Seattle-based advertising and public relations firm Jacobson Ray McLaughlin Fillips. Kendall spent the last six years as senior public relations writer and trade publicity coordinator for APA, the Engineered Wood Association, a Tacoma-headquartered non-profit trade association representing manufacturers of engineered wood products in North America.
Kristen Scott has been promoted to associate at Seattle-based Weber + Thompson Architects. Previously, she was a project architect with the firm, and has managed a variety of projects from feasibility stages through construction.
Seattle Espresso Machine Co. has introduced a new type of espresso making equipment -- the S series -- which utilizes microprocessor circuitry to automate the routine aspects of brewing. Made in Seattle, the S-100 single and S-200 double station commercial espresso machines allows for pouring directly into the largest espresso cup and ensures consistent temperature and continuous steam via separate steaming and brewing tanks monitored by the microprocessor. Seattle Expresso Company recently moved into a new Seattle manufacturing facility to handle growth in demand.
Seattle University's Small Business Institute, which provides teams of graduate and undergraduate business students to conduct in-depth consulting at no charge, is currently seeking business participants for summer quarter (June 19 to August 12). The institute, sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration and the Albers School of Business and Economics Entrepreneurship Center, has worked with more than 1,600 clients during the past 18 years. It handles approximately 50 cases a year in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. To be eligible, a business must have fewer than 50 employees, have been in business for more than a year or be sole proprietors wanting to expand, and be able to provide information on its operations for a minimum six-month period.
