Triangle Associates

Seattle-based Triangle Associates, an environmental consulting firm providing public involvement, mediation, facilitation and public policy services since 1979, has announced the re-election of Alice Shorett as president and the election of Martha Bean to vice president. Also, Vicki King and Jennifer Howell have been named senior associates, and Ananda Miller has been promoted to marketing coordinator.

Computerized reservation system for parks

SEATTLE (AP) -- Instead of driving in circles looking for a vacant campsite, car campers will soon be able to reserve a site over the telephone. A new computerized phone-in reservation system for state parks in Washington and Oregon has been approved by the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission. Set to go on line in January, the phone system will replace the states' old mail-in reservation systems, and is expected to boost revenues by $2 million, mostly by filling space in lesser-used parks. Campers will be able to call a centralized number to make their request and will know immediately if the campground is filled. They will be able to ask for referrals to another campground where space remains and pay over the phone by credit card. Under the old system, campers mailed in their reservation requests and then hoped the campsite was available. If it wasn't, campers often had no time to make a request for another campground before it, too, was filled. The number of Washington parks on the system will increase from 12 to 36 by 1996 and to 50 by January 1997. The number of parks in Oregon is also expected to increase. Washington Waterweeks seeking volunteers Washington Waterweeks, a statewide water-related environmental public awareness and involvement program made up of more than 220 community and regional events, is looking for community groups, organizations, schools, businesses and individuals interested in planning events for this year's program (Sept. 2 to Oct. 1). Coordinated by a Policy Board including representatives from a host of tribal, and state and federal government agencies, the 12-year-old program is designed to heighten awareness and appreciation for and encourage action to protect the state's shorelands, rivers, lakes and watersheds. NOAA/Olympic Coast National Sanctuary is also offering a series of $500 mini-grants for educational events related to the sanctuary. Last year's events included watershed tours, nature hikes, beach and river cleanups, wastewater treatment plant tours, seafood and boat festivals, children's activities, Native American salmon celebrations, wildlife viewing tours, storm drain stenciling, canoe and kayak tours, educational displays, and workshops. NAWIC

The National Association of Women in Construction has announced the winners of its first annual Crystal Vision Award. The award was designed to recognize an individual who promotes the role of women in construction through initiatives, policies or legislation. The winner for 1995 is Ted C. Kennedy, founder and chairman of BE&K Inc. of Birmingham, Ala. He created a model on-site child-care program, known as BE&Kare, which recognizes the important need of working mothers to provide care for young children. NAWIC's awards committee also selected Maybelle Hartness, plasterer journeywoman and instructor with the Plasterers and Cement Masons Job Corps Training Program in Chadron, Neb., for a special Crystal Achievement Award. Hartness was singled out for her achievements to recruit and train young people to the trades. Both Kennedy and Hartness will be honored for their achievements during closing ceremonies of the President's Banquet at the 40th Annual NAWIC Convention Sept. 9 at the Adam's Mark Hotel in Denver.

MBA of King and Snohomish Counties

Winners of the ninth annual Remodeling Excellence Awards were named recently by the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties. The winners were: Prestige Custom Builders Inc. of Seattle in the Open Category and the Merit Award; J.M. Bogan Company Inc. of Monroe for Room Addition; J.L. Jordan Company of Redmond for Major Remodel; Shirey Contracting Inc. of Bellevue for Kitchen Remodel; and Tenhulzen Remodeling Inc. of Redmond for Bathroom Remodel. A total of 22 projects were entered in this year's competition. They were nominated by builders, architects, interior designers and others in the housing industry. Judging was based on uniqueness and quality of construction.

Showplace Kitchen and Baths

The National Kitchen and Bath Association has recognized Fay Liner of Redmond's Showplace Kitchen and Baths with an honorable mention in its 1995 design contest. She will also have her work featured in the Fall 1995 issue of Woman's Day Kitchen and Bath Planner.

Art Anderson

Art Anderson Associates of Bremerton recently had two construction quality management term contracts renewed by the federal General Services Administration's Region 10 in Auburn. Region 10 --which manages GSA projects in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Alaska -- has contracted with Art Anderson for the past eight years. Bob Brott continues to serve as Anderson's contract manager to GSA. Two Anderson employees, Vern Schager and Doug Koenen, were recently recognized by Region 10 for their partnering efforts with the government.

Kennedy/Jenks

John E. Norris has been elected vice president of Kennedy/Jenks Consultants, a San Francisco-based environmental firm with offices throughout the U.S., including Washington. Norris, a geologist and environmental scientist, currently manages several cleanup projects under the Washington State Model Toxics Control Act and serves on a U.S. Air Force environmental advisory committee. He has also served as a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) instructor and as an expert witness in cases involving hazardous wastes.

Emick Howard

Jeffrey Graves, David Lewis and James F. Petrich have been promoted to the associate level at Emick Howard & Seibert, Inc. as part of an expansion effort in the corporate, financial and retail interior and architecture markets. Graves is project manager in charge of all Seattle's Best Coffee Cafe and kiosk locations throughout the United States. Lewis is production manager in charge of all commercial office and retail projects. Petrich is currently project manager in charge of several credit unions including Catholic Credit Union, Industrial Credit Union and Columbia Credit Union.

Tsang

Architect Kevin Scarlett has joined The Tsang Partnership in Tacoma. He has been assigned project manager for a Western State Hospital project and coordinator for a Central Washington State University science facility. Jeffrey Fox, who holds a bachelors degree in environmental design from Texas A&M has joined the firm as an intern, and is currently supporting the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard Housing project team.

Coffman

Greg Richards, a senior project manager, has joined the electrical engineering group at Coffman Engineers. He has 15 years experience in a wide variety of project types including the design of power distribution systems for large industrial projects. Richards is currently at work on several projects at Microsoft's Worldwide Campus in Redmond, projects at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tacoma and St. Anthony's Hospital in Pendelton and at the Mt. Roberts Tram project in Juneau. Also joining the electrical engineering group at Coffman is Jethro De Lisle. De Lisle specializes in the electrical design of commercial land institutional projects, and is currently at work on Paradise Lodge, Horizon House and Valley Office Park. Brian Fennel recently joined Coffman Engineers' mechanical engineering group as a CAD designer. He is at work on projects for Microsoft, Adams Elementary School in Yakima, Valley Medical Center in Kent. Shawn Simmons has been hired as an administrative staff supervisor for Coffman. Shawn was formerly an executive assistant/office manager for the national office of Hostelling International (an educational travel association.)

Weber + Thompson

Donna Nordquist has joined Weber + Thompson Architects as manager of interior deign. She has experience with financial institutions, retail and retirement community design. Jeremy Rene has been promoted to director of CAD production at Weber + Thompson.

Walker

David Schweitzer has joined Walker and Associates as senior graphics editor. Schweitzer, who has 20 years of Photogrammetric experience, is currently working on building data Geographic Information System for the Seattle Engineering Department.
