The Port of Corpus Christi Authority in Texas has commissioned the Klein System Group of Vancouver to customize and install the group's integrated Harbormaster System, Automated Billing System and Cargo Reservation System. Through Klein's design of computer systems and the electronic integration of the Port's operations and financial management systems, the Port will improve its operational and financial controls and cash flow.
RICHLAND -- U.S. Department of Energy officials are evaluating three proposals for a new five-year, $4.6 billion Hanford site management contract. The contract is scheduled to be awarded in July, and implementation should begin in October. The contract's requirements mark a major departure in the way the Department of Energy does business. At the Hanford site, much more work will be subcontracted by the site management contractor. The three companies that made offers on the contract and their major subcontractors are:
SEATTLE -- The Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation will have a public meeting for people who would like to see the final design drawings for improvements to the bicycle and pedestrian trail along Alki Avenue Southwest. The meeting will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Alki Community Center, 5817 S.W. Stevens St. The new design would create a separated bicycle and pedestrian trail along Alki Avenue Southwest from Duwamish Head to the west end of Alki Beach park. The project also would improve access to the beach and rebuild one or more sets of stairs along the seawall. Construction is expected to begin in fall 1996. The project is being funded by the Shoreline Park Improvement Fund, which was created to mitigate the impact of Metro's sewage treatment plant expansion at West Point. SEATTLE -- The Seattle Marine Business Coalition is planning a cleanup of the Seattle Ship Canal from 9 a.m. to noon May 11. The cleanup will take place from water skiffs and tug boats from the Ballard Locks to the Fremont Bridge. Volunteers from Seattle's water-dependent businesses, representatives from Puget Soundkeeper Alliance and local residents who would like to get involved are invited to participate. Support will be provided by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Port of Seattle. Participants should assemble at 8:30 a.m. May 11 at the 24th Street Pier in Ballard. Coffee and doughnuts will be served. All participants will be treated to a seafood barbecue at Fisherman's Terminal after the cleanup. The Sumas Branch of Seafirst Bank moved its newly remodeled location at 444 B Cherry Street, Sumas. The project included the remodel of a 1700-square-foot existing block building. The general contractor of the project is Exxel Pacific Construction Inc. of Bellingham and the architect is Waterleaf Architects & Interiors.
Tom Coleman has been awarded the Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) Designation by the Residential Sale Council of the Realtors National Marketing Institute, an affiliate of the National Association of Realtors.

Cho Yang Line announced that a new weekly container service linking the Pacific Northwest to the Far East will begin weekly westbound sailings on May 2. The new service, designated PDM, will sail out of Seattle and serve Tokyo, Osaka, Pusan, Kaohsiung, Hong Kong and Singapore. The addition of the Seattle service in combination with Cho Yang's weekly two-way round-the-world service brings to five the weekly direct, all-water sailings between the US and the Far East.
Garry Horvitz has joined the board of directors of Hart Crowser, Inc. Horvitz is principal engineer in the firm's corporate headquarters in Seattle. Constance Taylor, a principal and manager of Oregon operations in the Portland office and Ron Elgin, president and CEO of Elgin/Syferd/DDB Needham in Seattle were also elected to the board. Horvitz is Hart Crowser's most senior principal engineer, and was lead engineer in many downtown Seattle commercial and industrial redevelopment projects, including the Port of Seattle's Bell Street Pier and Wright Runstad's Central Waterfront development. He provided project management for the design and construction of Interstate-90 between I-5 and the Kingdome, including the transit lanes leading to Union Station. He is currently involved in the development of Southwest Harbor Island Terminal 5 for the Port of Seattle.
Steve Pesce has joined the Bellevue office of W& H Pacific as a project designer. He is responsible for civil design and coordination of site development projects including plans, specifications and contract documents, and is responsible for overseeing survey crews and marketing the firm's construction services. Steve Adermann has joined the office as construction survey manager. With over 15 years experience in surveying, mapping and construction surveying, Adermann's projects include the Black Diamond Coal Mine, mapping the Port of Seattle Southwest Harbor project and construction of Kamiak High School, Mukilteo Middle School and Harbor Steps.
Chan Chou has joined Triad Associates as a project manager at the Tacoma office. Chan has 25 years experience in the land development industry and has been involved in the design of planned communities and residential subdivisions such as Sunrise, Grandview, Providence Point, Lakeland and Weyerhaeuser's West Campus. Mike Bowen has been promoted to office manager in the Tacoma office of Triad. He has been a project surveyor in the Tacoma office for almost two years. Mark Reeves, who has been with the firm's Portland office for 12 years, will be now be working as a project engineer in the Tacoma office. He is currently at work on The Ridge at Clearwater, a 65-lot subdivision in Tumwater. Martin Kalb has also been transferred to the Tacoma office from the Kirkland office of Triad. He is now working as survey CAD technician on the Intel microprocessor plant in Du Pont and the University of Washington Branch Campus in Tacoma.
Rolle Studerus has joined C3MG as a senior cost estimator. Prior to joining C3MG, Studerus was chief estimator for SDL Corporation and was also supervisory estimator and cost control manager for the Austin Company of numerous design/build projects. He is former president and current board member for the Seattle section of the American Association of Cost Engineers International (AACE). John Maki has also joined the firm as a senior cost estimator. Formerly with the construction management division of Boeing, he specializes in contractor negotiations, project monitoring, risk prevention and claims avoidance. Maki is also a member of AACE.

GeoEngineers has relocated its Tacoma office to 1101 Fawcett Avenue, Suite 200. The new office has more than 5,600 square feet of production and administration space.
