Berger/ABAM

Thomas Huse has joined Berger/ABAM as civil engineering department manager. His background includes working as public works director of the City of Stafford, Connecticut, and as city engineer for the City of Ludlow, Massachusetts. For the past 15 years, Huse has served as program manager on several large-scale consulting projects, including the $80 million alternative water supply/hydropower project on the Spanish Forks River in Utah, the $150 million Eklutna Lake water supply/hydropower project near Anchorage, Alaska, and the $4.5 billion Sydney Water Board Clean Waterways Program in Australia. Huse comes to the Berger/ABAM from Consoer Townsend Envirodyne, Inc., where he was vice president and served as director of storm water programs. V.K. Kumar has been promoted to senior project manager. He has over 25 years of civil and structural engineering experience, and has been with Berger/ABAM for 18 of those years. Kumar's background is in the master planning, development, design, and program and construction management of complex waterfront facilities. He has managed several one-of-a-kind waterfront facility designs for U.S. Navy projects in Washington, California, and Georgia. Currently, Kumar's work focuses on large international waterfront development projects, including a $110 million port development project in Panama. For the project, he is providing program and construction management for design of wharves, terminals, upland facilities, and dredging plans. In addition to this project, Kumar is beginning work of waterfront projects in Brazil and in other areas of Central and South America. Harold Brende has joined Berger/ABAM as civil project manager. A University of Washington and Seattle University graduate, Brende has 18 years of experience with domestic and international civil and environmental engineering. Prior to joining Berger/ABAM, he served as principal engineer at Montgomery Watson Consulting Engineers, where he was responsible for project management, client marketing, and proposal development. Prior to working with Montgomery Watson, Brende served for five years as capital improvements project manager for the City of Bellevue Drainage Utility Department. Dwain Zahn has joined Berger/ABAM as engineer. Previously, Zahn served as design engineer at Harding Lawson Associates, where he worked on numerous bridge and roadway projects. His focus at Berger/ABAM is on civil engineering design for public works projects, including buildings, bridges, and roadways.

Otak

Melissa Tietje has joined Otak, Inc. of Kirkland as a CAD technician. She has over 15 years of technical experience within a wide range of disciplines, and was previously owner of TG CAD, a consulting firm. Gretchen Kallenberger has joined Otak as a landscape architectural intern. She will be working in Otak's Kirkland office for one year as a part of an internship program through Purdue University. Otak has participated in Purdue's landscape architecture intern program for the past two years and Kallenberger is the fourth Purdue student to be placed at Otak.

CivilTech

Jim King has joined CivilTech of Bellevue as a senior structural engineer. He has over 30 years of bridge, retaining wall and waterfront facilities experience, and was formerly employed by INCA Engineers. Joseph Wu has joined the firm as a geotechnical engineer. He received his master's degree in civil engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, and worked for several years on various roadway and bridge projects for the Texas Department of Transportation. Sandy Gardner Hartman has joined CivilTech as director of marketing. Hartman was formerly marketing manager of the northwest office of Earth Tech, Inc., and is currently on the Board of Directors of the Society for Marketing Professional Services.

Yost Grube Hall

Stuart Emmons has joined Yost Grube Hall (YGH) as a project architect. With a degree from Pratt Institute of New York and a masters degree from Harvard University, Emmons has worked at Konig Eizenberg Architecture in Santa Monica and at Skidmore Owing and Merrill in New York. He is currently at work on PacifiCorp Call Center. Peter Soldat has joined YGH with 17 years of experience and degrees in architecture and civil engineering. A native of Czechoslovakia, he was previously in private practice in California. He is currently working on the Exposition Center expansion project. Adonica Inzer has come to YGH as a design intern with a masters degree from the University of Virginia. Prior to joining YGH, Inzer worked in Robert A.M. Stern's office in New York. She will be working on construction administration for the Exposition Center expansion.

John Graham Associates/DLR Group

Timothy Stone has joined John Graham Associates/DLR Group as a project manager/architect, specializing in justice facilities. He has already contributed to the Camas Police/Court Facility, Walla Walla County Juvenile Services Center and the Clallam County adult correctional facility expansion study. He will also be involved in the Jackson/Josephine County correction facility expansion in Medford, Oregon. Prior to joining John Graham Associates, Stone was a project architect with the Voinovich Companies in Cleveland, Ohio. Elgin Cleckley has joined the firm as architectural designer. He earned a Masters of Architecture at Princeton University. Most recently, Cleckley freelanced as a project assistant in a New York firm. Since joining John Graham Associates Cleckley has worked on two new elementary schools for the Longview School District. He currently assists the design of the Walla Walla County Juvenile Services Center and Whittier Elementary School. Colin Ripley joins the firm as a architectural designer. Ripley earned his Masters of Science at the University of Toronto and Masters of Architecture at Princeton University where he received an award for design work from the American Institute of Architects. Ripley is working on the Ala Moana Shopping Center Expansion and Robert Gray Elementary School. Nathalie Philip joins the firm as a structural designer. Presently, she is involved with the Ala Moana Shopping Center expansion including the Makai Parking Garage Expansion, the upper-level mall and the Neiman Marcus Addition. Emily Momohara is now working as a project manager. Momohara provides administrative assistance to project teams throughout the design, bid and construction phases.

Earth Tech

Earth Tech, Inc. has been selected by the City of Franklin, Ohio, to negotiate a 20 year service contract to provide design/build/finance/operate services for its water treatment plant. The total project cost, including the design and construction of the water treatment facility and the monthly contract operations for maintenance for a 20-year period is expected to exceed $12 million. Earth Tech will provide all project financing for the design and construction for the facility.

Hacker

Thomas Hacker Associates Architects has been selected to design the Trinity Episcopal Cathedral master plan in Portland. The project team includes Walker & Macy for landscape architecture, Harper Righellis for civil engineering, KPFF for structural engineering, Altermatt Associates for acoustical engineering and Max Gerit for cost estimation. The firm has also been selected to design the new $6.5 million, 40,000-square-foot Bend Library. The entire consultant team matches that of Trinity Cathedral, excepting the addition of Williamson McCarter for interior design and Anderson Krygier for signage.
