Prezant Assoc.

Prezant Associates Inc. has been appointed to be a Safety Plus Verifier by the Washington Department of Labor and Industries. Prezant's approved verifiers are Rick Gleason, Jim Catalano and Neil Callahan. The Safety Plus Certification Program, sponsored by OSHA and L&I, is designed to recognize and reward construction contractors who have demonstrated a firm commitment to developing superior safety programs. Contractors who can document their safety performance and procedures are exempt from routine job site inspections. This certification is accomplished by an independent third party verifier who reviews safety records and conducts jobsite inspections to confirm safety procedures.

State Department of Labor and Industries Director Mark Brown has been appointed to a national advisory committee on worker safety and health in the construction industry by U.S. Department of Labor Secretary Robert Reich. The committee is called the Advisory Committee on Construction Safety and Health. It advises the Occupational Safety and Health Administration on standards and policies designed to protect construction workers from workplace hazards. The panel consists of five representatives each of workers and employers, two of state government, two public and one federal. Members serve two-year terms.

The Building Industry Association of Washington announced its builder awards at its annual conference Aug. 16 in Ocean Shores. The top award, Home Builder of the Year, went to Dottie Piazza of Piazza Construction in Mount Vernon. Remodeler of the Year honors went to Sandy McAdams of Kirkland-based Sandy's Design and Remodeling. Pat McBride of GMS Architectural Group in Bellevue was awarded Associate of the Year. Also, four members were named to the organization's Hall of Fame. They include: John Slott, Dave Baker, Frank Durston and John Piazza.

Washington WaterWeeks 1996

More than 140 educational and water-related activities are planned during Washington WaterWeeks, a statewide program scheduled from Sept. 1 to Oct. 6. Now in its 13th year, Washington WaterWeeks is designed to get people involved in protecting the state's shorelands, waterways, rivers, lakes and watersheds. The 35 water-related activities scheduled in King County include SCUBA programs, water festivals, kayak trips, wetland walks, waterfront cleanups and wetland plantings. Orca-watching tours, underwater diving cleanups, wildlife viewing, hatchery tours, water quality monitoring and seafood festivals also are scheduled throughout the state. Brownfields '96 conference in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH -- A conference called "Brownfields '96: A New Environmental Frontier" is scheduled for Sept. 20 and 21 at the Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh. Anyone with an interest in the cleanup and redevelopment of contaminated properties is welcome to attend. The conference has been designed with government officials, tribal leaders, builders, plant managers, cleanup companies, developers, bankers, lenders, contractors, real estate brokers and venture capitalists in mind. Speakers at the conference will describe various private and public financing tools that are available, as well as ways to streamline site assessments and get sites back into production more quickly. The conference is sponsored by the Environmental Protection Agency, the American Bar Association, the International City/County Managers Association and the National Religious Partnership for the Environment. Seattle Arts Commission

Five Seattle citizen's have been appointed to two year terms with the Seattle Arts Commission. The new commissioners are Donna Gary Gogerty, Gogerty & Stark, Inc.; Merlee Kay Markishtum, Sacred Circle Gallery of American Indian Art; Vivian Phillips-Scott, Seattle Landmark Association; Ronald Thomas, Community Design Exchange; H.S. Wright, III, Sprague Capital and Delta Airlines. The Seattle Arts Commission, a City of Seattle department, consists of 15 policymaking volunteer commissioners, appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by City Council, and a professional staff. The commission promotes public programs furthering development and public awareness of fine and performing arts in Seattle, and advances Seattle as an international center of artistic exploration.

O.B. Williams Company

David Herrin has been appointed Outside Sales Manager for O.B. Williams Company, Seattle. He will present the company's extensive architectural woodworking capabilities to Architects, Designers and Builders throughout the Northwest and Pacific Rim regions. O.B. Williams is one of the oldest millwork firms in the U.S. now in its 107th year of continuous operation. The company is a founding member of the Architectural Woodwork Institute of North America.

Design Decor Interior Design

Design Decor Interior Design has won "Seattle Street of Dreams" interior design awards for work on "Fairweather Bluff", one of the custom residences featured in this year's recently-completed event. The Bellevue-based interior design group was spotlighted with top honors in several categories, including best interior merchandising, best master suite and best kitchen. Design Decor principal Mary Jane Lundsgaard collaborated with builder Encore Design/Build on the home. With offices in Bellevue and Bloomington, Minn., Design Decor provides interior design, model home merchandising and sales center development to a nationwide clientele of residential builders, developers and individuals.

Kerry Sturgill has joined the firm of MWW/Savitt as senior account executive. Sturgill will be responsible for formulating strategic communications plans and proposals for new business, as well as conduct crisis management as needed. She will augment and develop corporate positioning and media relations programs for such established clients as Stoel Rives and ConnexT. MWW/Savitt provides a breadth of services for its clients, including media relations, strategic communications, product introductions, corporate positioning, advertising, web page and graphic design.
