American Public Works Association

Jared Smith, a senior principal engineer with the Seattle office of Parsons Brinckerhoff, has been selected by the American Public Works Association (APWA) to receive the 1997 Private Sector Service Award (Individual). This national award recognizes the outstanding achievements of private sector individuals in the provision of public facilities and services.

NeoPath

Redmond-based NeoPath, Inc. has named William Scott vice president and chief financial officer. Scott also joined the Company's board of directors. NeoPath designs products to improve diagnostic accuracy, and is the maker of the AutoPap System.

CPM Inc.

After nine years with Seattle architect Meng, M. Brandon Meyers has established her own firm, Construction Planning & Management Inc. (CPM Inc.). Based out of Renton, Meyers is acting as project manager for the $37 million modernization of the Mercer Island High School campus. She is planning to provide similar services to other school districts throughout the Pacific Northwest.

FMI Corp.

Construction management consultant FMI Corp. has formed two new groups to serve the industry. The Risk Management Consulting Group will be managed by Steven Davis and the Turnaround/Workout Group will be managed by Jim Constance. Risk Management will address coverage adequacy, safety performance benchmarking, insurance program design, self insurance and captive insurance alternatives. Turnaround/Workout will assist contractors in recovering from financial distress and resolving financial restructuring issues. FMI is based in Denver and has offices in Raleigh, N.C., and Tampa, Fla.

Kleinfelde

BELLEVUE -- Paul Grant has joined the Bellevue office of Kleinfelder Inc. as principal geotechnical engineer. Grant is a professional engineer with more than 25 years experience in earthquake engineering. He has developed earthquake criteria for the design of new buildings and for the evaluation of existing buildings. Grant also has experience evaluating ground stability, including landslide and liquefaction potential. Kleinfelder is a national geotechnical, environmental, water resources, risk assessment, toxicology and construction consulting firm based in Walnut Creek, Calif. Kleinfelder has 800 employees in 40 offices around the United States and overseas.

DEA

Peter D. Gonzales and Charles Burnham have been promoted to senior associates and Robert R. Burton and Ronald Q. Anderson have been appointed as associates of David Evans and Associates, Inc. (DEA). David Benson has been appointed as the engineering discipline leader for DEA's Tacoma office. Gonzales, who has been with the firm since 1992, manages the Tacoma office. He is currently working on projects for the Washington State Departments of Transportation (WSDOT) and several county and city governments. Burnham joined DEA in 1992, and has managed several complex rail engineering projects, including the $25 million Banfield Light Rail Transit system for Tri-Met in Portland. Burton, who joined the firm in 1989 as a land surveyor, has been at work on High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) design projects and served as survey manager for the Sunrise Master Planned Community development in Puyallup, Anderson joined the firm in 1995 after 30 years with WSDOT. He currently serves as transportation design manager for the Bellevue office an is actively involved in over a dozen projects located throughout the state. As the newly appointed engineering discipline leader, Benson will direct the engineering group at the firm's Tacoma office. With degrees as a civil engineer, structural engineer and surveyor, he has over 26 years of experience in civil engineering and engineering management. He is currently working on several projects with the Attorney General's Office for Washington and the Prosecuting Attorney's Office for King County. He is also acting as quality control manager for engineering join the Willows Run Golf Course.

DegenKolb

David A. Roggenkamp has joined Degenkolb Engineers as a senior associate with experience in the design of complex excavation shoring systems, foundations, design of structures and seismic analysis. Brian T. Knight has joined the firm as a designer with experience in designing new facilitiedyando s and seismic renovation of educational, retail and multi-family housing projects.

APG

Katherine Bren, Engineer-in-training, has joined Ayers Professional Group, Inc. (APG) of Bellingham. Her responsibilities include permitting, feasibility studies and as-needed support to the engineering and surveying divisions. Peter Hodges has joined APG as a senior surveyor and director of geographic information systems. He was most recently chief surveyor for Wilson Engineering. He has served as editor of New Hampshire Survey Law, and currently teaches surveying courses at the Bellingham Technical College and the Northwest Tribal School. Jerzy Gaciarz has joined HDR Engineering, Inc. as a rail designer in the company's Bellevue office. His experience includes participation has a project engineer in the Los Angeles Community Transit System Rail Expansion, the Westside Corridor Project in Portland and the Green Line in Chicago. He holds a master's degree from Krakow Technical University in Poland.

Lewis

Amy J. Pearson has been promoted to architectural associate at The Lewis Architects. Since joining the firm in 1993, she has served as project manager and-or designer for the Bainbridge Island, Marysville, Brier and Oregon City Libraries, and the Marysville City Hall. Shirley J. Hamilton has been promoted to administrative associate. She has been business manager for th firm since 1993.

CDi

Gary Nakano has joined CDi Mechanical Engineers as a project engineer. He was with Johnson Controls for 30 years as a senior controls engineer and field manager and was most recently a project engineer for Wood/Harbinger Consulting Engineers. Chris Johnson has also joined the firm as a project engineer. He was previously with Wood/Harbinger, where he served as project manger for a variety of military housing and university remodel projects. Cory Schifferl has joined CDi as a CAD designer. He was formerly with Abacus Engineers Systems for 10 years.

D. Hittle

D. Hittle & Associates, Inc. Engineers and Consultants of Richland and Lynnwood recently announced the promotion of several key employees. Jeffrey Shupe, vice president since 1988, was elected to succeed David Hittle as president of the electrical engineering firm while Hittle himself became chairman of the board. Robert Schneider, manager of the Lynnwood office, was elected vice president. Madelon Hittle and Sara Shupe were reelected to positions of secretary and treasurer, respectively. Paul Eliason, senior electrical designer, has been promoted to electrical design manager. He has just completed a course on programmable logic controllers to assist in process control.
