Teledesic, the new company backed by telecommunications pioneer Craig McCaw and Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates, has hired Phinney Bischoff Design House to develop and design a web site and print marketing materials for the company.
Craig Burnett and Hans Leitzinger have joined the northwest regional office of Watson Wyatt Worldwide, a human resources and management consulting firm. As a senior consultant and account manager, Burnett has 14 years of experience in outsourcing, retirement plan design, mergers and acquisitions and federal compliance. Before joining Watson Wyatt Worldwide, Leitzinger worked was manager for analytic services for Providence Health Plans and with William M. Mercer consultants.

Increased workload at Lease Crutcher Lewis has caused the contractor to add personnel and make promotions. The company has hired Tony McCreight to help manage its central storage yard; new project engineers include Adam Hagan, Ryland Halffman and Calvin Otto; Kelly Farley has returned as a jobsite administrative assistant; and Emily Hotchkiss, David White and Terri Greco have been hired as administrative assistants at the company's main office. LCL also announced Mark Portin and Ron McDonald are recent graduates of the company's ongoing training program to create field superintendents from trade foremen. Finally, the company has hired three summer interns from the University of Washington's School of Construction Management. They include Matt Rosauer, Adam Wilson and Patrick Roberts.
The Association of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers is holding a Sept. 10 meeting at The Mountaineers Club (300 Third W., Seattle). The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a workshop called "Fan, Pump and VFD Shaft Grounding Systems for Reduction of Bearing/Motor Failures," by Dan Parker of DP&A Sales of Oregon. A social and dinner will follow. The dinner presentation will be "Legal Perspectives on Project Documentation and Claim Submissions," by Doug Oles and James Nagle of Oles, Morrison and Rinker LLP. The Tilt-Up Concrete Association is conducting a two-day tilt-up symposium and other events Sept. 17-20 at the Atlanta Marriott North Central in Atlanta. Symposium subjects will include marketing, design, lifting, bracing, finishes, insulated panels, chemicals, estimating, tips and techniques. Cost is $495 for TCA members and $595 for others. Paul R. Skidmore has joined the staff of Coughlin Porter Lundeen as a project engineer. Also an architect, his background includes specialization in wood-frame structures. His current projects include the Mount Vernon Fire station, Bellevue Fire Stations 4 and 9, Chateau Development Condominiums, and Cle Elum Condominiums. Civil engineer and project manager Laurie J. Pfarr-Dillard and structural engineer Patricia D. Nakamura also joined the firm. Pfarr-Dillard, whose experience includes managing public and private development projects, is now at work on the Willlow Creek Corporate Center of Redmond, Pyramid Apartments in Tukwila, and Des Moines City Hall. Nakamura, who specializes in steel frame, post-tesioned concrete and wood frame structures, is now at work on Bellevue Park Condominiums, New Puyallup High School and the Union Station parking structure. Other recent staff additions at Coughlin Porter Lundeen include structural engineers Cory Hitzemann, Tim Mealy, and Bryan Zagers. CAD technicians Laura Henrichs, Leland Leahy and Michael Townsend also joined the firm.
Karsea Dawson has joined Baylis Brand Wagner as an intern architect. She is at work on Marsh Commons, a closed gate community located in Kirkland along Lake Washington Boulevard, and Bellevue Park Condominiums, which border the Bellevue Downtown Park on the north side. Clarence Kwan has also joined the firm as an intern architect with a masters degree from the University of Washigton, and will be focusing his CAD skills on Meadow Creek Office Park, which is located in Issaquah, and a new condominium development in Bothell.
David Wark, Tracey Simpson, Isaac Tevet and Troy Ainsworth have been named associate principals at Fletcher Farr Ayotte (FFA) of Portland. Wark is a designer and historic architect who is currently working on renovations for the the Oregon State Library and the Salem Passenger Rail Depot, both in Salem. He is also designing an Easter Seals camp and winter ski facility near Winthrop. Simpson is director of interiors for FFA, and is currently work in the Greenwood Lodge, a new hotel in Vancouver, and the Oregon State Library renovation. Tevet is FFA's quality manager and a project architect. He is at work on an industrial Park in Cottage Grove, Oregon and on an office renovation for Epson Corporation in Hillsboro. Ainsworth is a project manager for FFA. He recently completed the renovation project for Multnomah County Central Library and is currenty at work on live/work townhouses at Orenco Station in Hillsboro.
Lisa Berenson has joined the interiors group at Weber + Thompson, and is currently working on several credit unoin projects, including the King County Credit Union in Issaquah.
Bill Collins has joined the Portland office of GeoEngineers as an environmental project engineer. He has most recently specialized in hydrogeology, aquifer characterization and contaminant fate and transport modeling and work on large projects such as the Portland International Airport and wood treating facilities. Doug Schwarm has joined the office as a senior geotechnical engineer with nine years of experience in industrial foundation, infrastructure, civic improvements and eathquake engineering.
