Harris Group

Harris Group Inc. and LHB Engineers & Architects recently entered into a long term alliance centered around the needs of industrial clients in paper and wood products, material handling, mineral processing, power generation, food and beverage processing, oil production, and gas processing, transmission and storage. The alliance joins LHB's architectural and engineering expertise in site and facility design with Harris' proficiency in industrial detail design and process engineering. Harris has a technical staff of over 400 with offices in Seattle; Portland; Appleton, Wisconsin; Denver; and St. Petersburg, Russia. LHB has a staff of 85 with office located in Duluth and Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Hanson

Hanson Engineers, Inc. has opened an office in Bellevue as Hanson-Wilson Inc. at 1621 114th Avenue SE. Phil Borrowman, a 23-year Hanson employee and vice president with the firm will manage the office. Hanson, which is based in Springfield, Illinois, is a national consulting firm providing transportation engineering, airport planning and design, environmental and waste management services, industrial hygiene services and general design and construction services.

Architects West/The Matrix Group

Mike Patano, founder and majority stockholder of Architects West of Spokane and Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, has sold his shares in the company to longstanding shareholders and employees Jim Christensen, Kevin Jester, Scott Fisher, Gary Johnson and John Evans. The firm will continue to offer full design services to custom residential, multi family residential, retail, commercial office, medical and religious clients, with special emphasis placed on expertise in the design of educational facilities. Patano has co-founded The Matrix Group, Inc., and educational facilities planning business, in Coeur d'Alene. Co-owners Patano and Shellie Loper were both with Architects West and a third co-owner, Dave Teater, is currently employed as an assistant superintendent to the Coeur d'Alene School District. Teater will begin work full time with The Matrix Group at the end of the year.

Sclater Kimball

Jay E. Reeves has joined Sclater Kimball Architects as an associate, renewing his relationship with principals Alan D. Sclater and Alexander B. Kimball after 13 years with Martin Selig Real Estate. Reeves previously worked with Sclater and Kimball at Charles Kober Associates, Inc., Sclater Kimball's predecessor firm. Reeves served as a project manager and owner's representative at Martin Selig Real Estate. Sclater Kimball has also added three members to its architectural staff. Dean Harris was recently an architect and designer for JPC Inc. of Redmond. Scott M. Kunnanz previously worked as an architect and CAD manager for Davis Opfer Raab Architecture in Yakima. Andrew C. Wisdom will serve as the firm's CAD manager. He previously worked for Arca in Everett.

Entranco

Brian Krcelic has joined Entranco as a branch manager for the Beaverton, Ore., office. His extensive experience in roadway projects includes the Fibre Way grade separation project for the Port of Longview and the Cedar Hills Boulevard Extension in Washington County, Ore.

Bumgardner

Dyan Hoblitzell has joined The Bumgardner Architects as marketing director. She has worked in the architecture and engineering field since 1990. Hoblitzell holds a bachelor's degree from Ohio University, and completed a technical editing and writing certification program at the University of Washington.

Notkin

Chris Ashe has joined Notkin Engineering, Inc. as a mechanical designer. Past projects have included the Bremerton Naval Hospital and Puget Sound Energy's South King Services Complex. John Augenstein has also joined the firm, and is now project engineer for the Benaroya Research Institute, a new research facility at Virginia Mason Medical Center. Doug Koenen has joined the firm with 14 years' experience in mechanical and fire protection design. He is now project engineer for several projects at Overlake Hospital. Steve Nichols has returned to Notkin with 16 years of experience in mechanical design, and is now working on the Experience Music Project. Darren Schwend, a recent graduate of the University of Washington, has joined the firm as a mechanical designer, and Frank van der Harst has been hired at Notkin and is now at work as a plumbing designer on the Benaroya Research Institute and the Experience Music Project.

Hart Crowser

John Verduin has been promoted to the position of sediment services manager at Hart Crowser, Inc. He has 10 years of experience in sediments characterization and remediation projects in Puget Sound, one of the most closely regulated water bodies in the U.S., and will now coordinate resources for sediment remediation projects throughout the country. Sara Graalum has joined the firm as a coastal and sediment remediation engineer. Her training in ocean engineering allows her to analyze the long term effects of waves and currents on remedial actions. Valerie Wilson has joined Hart Crowser as a sediment toxicologist and sediment quality specialist. She previously worked with the EPA as a project manager for proposed rule making on amendments to hazardous waste regulations.

GeoEngineers

Lee Norwood will manage marketing activities for the 40-person Portland office of GeoEngineers. She has eight years experience in marketing and public relations. David Phelps has joined the Tacoma office of GeoEngineers as a staff geotechnical engineer with four years' professional experience. John Begley, who has a master's degree in Library Science, joined the Redmond office as information systems specialist. Recent promotions at GeoEngineers include John Koreny to project environmental scientist and Kyle Sattler to project geologist in the Portland office. Other promotions include Boyd Benson to staff geologist, Doug Morgan to project geotechnical engineer and Matt Smith to staff geotechnical engineer in the Redmond office.

Kennedy/Jencks

June H. Yi has joined Kennedy/Jencks Consultants as a staff engineer in the industrial services group. She will participate in the planning and design of industrial process and wastewater treatment facilities. She has experience in water purification, wastewater treatment, waste minimization, and coolant recovery systems.

Lewis

Kimberly Parsley has joined The Lewis Architects to lead an interior design studio. She has seven years of design experience in the areas of assisted living, libraries, police and corporate projects.

Skillings-Connolly

Gary Wheeler has joined Skillings-Connolly in Lacey. He previously worked for the City of Tacoma in managerial positions in the Engineering and Street Maintenance divisions.

Marshall

Jean Juengling has joined Marshall and Associates. A Geographic Information Systems specialist, Jeungling has served most recently with the Washington Department of Natural Resources as a project lead on orthophoto map production and applications design.

Girvin

Thomas Lehman has joined Tim Girvin Design, Inc., as a studio director and senior designer. Lehman's background includes stints with Landor Associates, Parsons School of Design and Euro Disney, all of Paris, and Giorgio Galli & Partners, Milan. He ran his own firm in Seattle from 1986 to 1991.

Reid Middelton

Michelle Mach has joined Reid Middleton as an civil and transportation engineer with project experience in traffic and intersection analysis and preliminary design of urban and rural roadway projects. She is currently at work on a street interchange in Lynnwood. Darbie Doerge has joined Reid Middleton as a surveyor. He has worked for municipalities throughout the region on mapping traffic engineering, sewer and survey projects. He is currently working on the Anacortes Waterline Crossing project.

Golder

Andrew J. Nock has joined the Portland office of Golder Associates, Inc. as a senior engineer. He specializes in industrial wastewater and contaminated groundwater treatment systems. He is currently working with a steel manufacturing client. Ronald P. Blegen recently joined the Portland office of Golder Associates as a project hydrogeologist, moving from the Los Alamos, N.M., office, where he managed remedial investigations and corrective actions for the National Laboratory Environmental Restoration Project.

Dees

Carrie Culp and Jack Johnson have joined Bruce Dees & Associates of Tacoma as project managers. Both have degrees in landscape architecture. Culp is now project manager for the Celebration Park Sports Complex in Federal Way, the Lake Stevens Playfield Master Plan, and the University of Washington East Campus Master Plan. Johnson is currently working on construction documents for the City of Kent's Garrison Creek and Lind Heights projects and for Boeing's Fredrickson's Employee Park. Engineer Mark Palmer has also joined the firm, and is now at work on the Foothills Trail project in Pierce County and the Celebration Park Sports Complex in Federal Way.
