SEATTLE -- Seattle environmental firm Shapiro & Associates Inc. has completed the draft environmental impact statement for the new Seahawks football stadium and exhibition center. The Washington State Public Stadium Authority (PSA) will issue the draft EIS on Wednesday. The document examines the environmental impacts of constructing the stadium at three different sites, which are known as: Kingdome/North Parking Lot; Kingdome/South Parking Lot; and Orillia Road (north and south of 200th Street, between Orillia Road and Frager Road). Shapiro & Associates served as the PSA's prime consultant for the draft EIS, providing project management and document production, as well as expertise in the areas of land-use planning, plants, animals, wetlands, air, noise, public services, transportation, parking and historic resources. The following companies served as primary contributors to the draft EIS:
SUMNER -- Parametrix Inc. has hired three engineers to work in its Sumner and Portland offices. Ken Fellows has joined the Sumner office of Parametrix as a staff engineer. Fellows has six years experience in air quality permitting, industrial regulatory compliance and contaminated site remediation. He recently returned to Washington after a two-year sabbatical, during which he and his wife sailed from Washington to Mexico. Fellows is currently working on the Hansville Landfill Feasibility Study to select an appropriate cleanup level and treatment technology for the landfill's groundwater contamination. He also is working on the design and operation of a stormwater treatment system for the Port of Seattle. Before joining Parametrix, Fellows worked for Landau Associates in Edmonds. Cynthia Clark also has joined the Sumner office as a staff engineer in the transportation department. Clark has three years experience in traffic signal design and traffic engineering. Before joining Parametrix, she worked for Entranco in Bellevue, where she assisted with the Traffic Impact Analysis Report for Redmond Town Center. Clark is currently working as a design engineer on the project team for the Ponderosa Estates project, assisting in the design of a 3-mile roadway network for that neighborhood. She also is assisting in the analysis of several alternatives for an east-west roadway near Yelm Highway. Jan Kem has joined the Portland office of Parametrix as a senior engineer. Kem has more than 30 years experience in water supply and treatment, wastewater collection and treatment and sludge disposal. He recently completed his doctorate in engineering at the University of New Hampshire. Kem is the project engineer for the North Bonneville General Sewer Plan in Washington. He also is involved in the Clackamas County Service District No. 1 Sewer Diversion and Pump Station in Oregon.
DENVER, Colo. -- The parent firm of Geraghty & Miller Inc., Heidemij NV of the Netherlands, has changed its name to Arcadis. Geraghty & Miller officially adopted the new name Arcadis Geraghty & Miller on Jan. 1. At the same time, Geraghty & Miller completed integration of its operating companies, which include Piedmont Olsen Hensley, Acurex Environmental and Alternative Remedial Technologies. By renaming the global company, Arcadis is highlighting the firm's international scope. Arcadis has 6,500 employees around the world and a gross revenue level of about $600 million. Arcadis says its clients have increasingly called for cross-border services and assistance with larger-scale projects. This has triggered an exchange of technology and client contacts within the global firm and has created the need for integrated engineering services. The name "Arcadis" comes from Arcadia, known in ancient Greek mythology as one of the best places to live on earth. Arcadis' new logosymbol -- a salamander -- is designed to represent the amphibian that lives on land and in water, where Arcadis does its environmental consulting and engineering work. Arcadis says it plans to increase its geographical spread with a special focus on the United States, Southeast Asia and Latin America over the next two to three years. Arcadis is a public company traded on the Amsterdam Exchange and through NASDAQ.

Cascade Designs Inc. of Seattle, have received a patent by the U.S. patent and Trademark office for Cascade's LiteFoam technology. LifeFoam starts a solid piece of Therm-A-Rest open-cell foam that is narrower than a finished mattress. A pattern of slits is stamped into the foam, and then the foam core is stretched to the full width of a finished mattress, causing the slits to become locked openings that reduce weight and bulk. This will allow Cascade to develop a lightweight self-inflating camping mattress. Cascade Designs are the makers of the Therm-a-Rest mattress.
