Microsoft

Microsoft Corp. announced the promotion of Steven Sinofsky to vice president of Microsoft Office and Brian Valentine to vice president of Windows development. Sinofsky manages design and development of the Office suite and its applications. Valentine manages design and development of the Windows 2000 operating system and associated infrastructure products.

Pure Audio

Sabrina Manhas has joined Seattle's Pure Audio as client services manager. Manhas formerly served as studio director at Emerald City Productions in Seattle. Pure Audio provides audio production and sound design for television, radio, film and new media.

GLY

GLY Construction recently hired four new employees to meet growing demand: Stephanie Hixson, Christina Lombard, Andy Roed and Mark Kane. Hixson is a project engineer providing support for the Quadrant East Campus project in Federal Way. Lombard is assisting the firm in its marketing efforts under the title of marketing coordinator. Roed, a project engineer, is providing estimating support for GLY's preconstruction services. Kane is a senior project manager currently overseeing preconstruction efforts for an Eastside project.

Boeing

The Boeing Co. announced the retirement of Bob Davis, vice president of engineering and technology, effective Dec. 31. Davis, 65, has served in this position since August 1994. He has been with Boeing for 40 years and worked on virtually every 7-series commercial airplane program.

Horton Lantz Marocco

Horton Lantz Marocco, a Seattle-based design agency, has added Diane Christensen as senior designer, Roseann Taculad as print production assistant and Katrina Seeley as receptionist and office coordinator.

Pacific North Equipment

Pacific North Equipment Co. of Kent has announced the following promotions and additions. Christian Davidson has joined PNE as manager, information technology, in the Technology Group. Davidson will engineer and protect the company's investments in technology infrastructure. He worked previously for a heavy equipment dealer in Phoenix, Ariz. Tom Tracey has joined the company as the rental coordinator, responsible for all rentals, machine movements and accessories for the expanding PNE Rentals Division. Doug Moschtti has been promoted to senior credit and retail finance manager. He originally joined PNE as credit manger for Oregon. Eddie Gibson has been promoted to Chehalis service manager, responsible for the daily operations of the Chehalis service department. Gibson has worked for PNE for 24 years, primarily as a field mechanic. Colvin Holm recently celebrated his 25-year anniversary at Pacific North Equipment, located at 22431 83rd Ave. S. in Kent. Holm started at the company as a parts counter person in 1973 and worked his way up to regional parts manager, a post he has held for the past 10 years. Pacific North Equipment of Kent has been chosen as the number one dealer for Moxy Trucks in the United States for 1998. Moxy Trucks presented its annual "President's Award" to Tim A. Hess, vice president of sales for Pacific North. The award is based on dealer practices, market share and creative marketing efforts.

DLR

Jon Petit is one of five DLR Group principals nationwide to be selected as senior principal. He has over 22 years of professional experience in architecture and specializes in working with communities and client groups. Tom Corcoran is the DLR Group's newest associate. A structural engineer, he is now on site overseeing construction at the Ala Moana Shopping Center expansion in Honolulu. Kim Paulson, Julie Stalzer, Lisa Johnson, Jim Petrich and Scott Haas have been promoted to the level of associate. Paulson, a mechanical engineer, is now working on the Forks High School addition and a study for the King County Courthouse. Stalzer manages the Seattle office of the DLR Group. Johnson is an architectural designer and model builder, and is the project architect for Forks High School addition. Petrich, a project manager, is currently at work on the Mount Vernon Police Facility. Haas, a project architect, is currently construction administrator for four projects with Steilacoom Historical School District.

JPC

Architect Michael L. Jones is managing the new Pioneer Square office of JPC Architecture, Planning and Interior Design. Jones and his four staff members are working on projects for Host Marriott, the Port of Seattle and Kilroy Realty. Eric VanAtta is a project manager with JPC's Seattle office. His experience includes architectural design, construction management, civil engineering and facilities management. Roger Merritt, has joined the firm as manager of JPC Facilities Management Services. His current clients include the Port of Seattle Airport Division, Safeco and Humongous Entertainment. Kevin Sarkady will lead facilities technology at JPC, having developed a program that links CAD drawings to a database. Dean Harris has rejoined the firm as a design architect and currently counts Microsoft, FAA, Onyx and Microvision as clients. New architectural designers at JPC include Lee Labbauf, Shannon Seefeldt, Steve Shilman and Christine Wu. Laura Gygi has joined the firm as an interior designer and Grant Harris will work in facilities management.

Entranco

Mike Bertram has joined Entranco as a project manager for the transportation services group. He has extensive experience in the design of highways, roadways and interchanges. He is now at work on the widening of 35th Avenue Southeast in Snohomish County and on roadway improvements in Woodinville and SeaTac.

Hart Crowser

Shannon McFarlin has joined Hart Crowser, Inc. as a marketing communications specialist in the marketing and proposals services group. Her background includes marketing management and communications at AT&T and network training in the Bay Area.

Wood/Harbinger

David Cherny has joined Wood/Harbinger as an electrical engineer. Prior to joining the firm, he was senior electrical engineer for a 3,500-person firm in Kiev, Ukraine.

Elliott Bay

Will Nickum has joined the Elliott Bay Design Group as a senior naval architect. Nickum was president of EBDG's predecessor firm, Nickum & Spaulding, and has been practicing independently for 10 years. Nickum, a third-generation naval architect, has worked on passenger vessels, commercial fishing and processing, towing, firefighting and rescue craft, and has authored numerous studies on vessel requirements and design. William Moran has also joined the firm with more than 25 years of marine engineering experience, including previous contract work on a recent SWATH ferry design. He was previously employed at Lockheed Shipbuilding, and has applied specialties in mechanical engineering and comprehensive systems to tankers, military ships and work boats.

Degenkolb

Degenkolb Engineers of Portland has hired Jake Stept as a design engineer. He is currently working on a seismic inventory for the Department of Veterans Affairs and for Hewlett-Packard Co. in Corvallis, Ore. Randall Weir has joined the Portland office as a designer, with two years of experience in Degenkolb's Los Angeles office. His experience includes structural analysis, seismic evaluation and structural design, and retrofit design of existing structures. He is currently working on a seismic inventory for the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Interface

Charles B. Whiddon has joined Interface Engineering as a senior electrical designer. His specialties include hospital, commercial, industrial, airport and power generator facilities. Sean Eickoff, a senior mechanical designer, has relocated from Denver to join the firm. He is experienced in the design of mechanical systems for large commercial, assembly and entertainment facilities.

CDi

Samuel Kim has joined Lynnwood's CDi Mechanical Engineers as a project engineer. He was previously with Coffman Engineers. Kim is now at work on the University of Washington Medical Center Pacific Tower and upgrades to the Children's Hospital Medical Center in Seattle.

Berger/ABAM

Kelly Robinson has joined Berger/ABAM Engineers as a senior word processor. She was previously with KPMG Peat Marwick. Leanne Norseth has joined the firm as a project coordinator. She comes to the firm from Davidson Enterprises, and has over four years of transportation-related project coordination experience.

FWL

Shawn Donihue and Scott Moreland have joined FWL Architects of Portland as intern architects. Donihue has worked on projects for Bekins, InFocus Systems and Red Lion Hotels. Moreland previously interned at Cornerstone Design in Springfield, Ore.

PSI

Jeffrey S. Thomson has been promoted to department manager at PSI, and will be responsible for environmental services and analytical chemistry operations there.

HDR

Joyce M. Lem has joined HDR Engineering as senior project manager in the Seattle office. She was previously with Andersen Bjornstad Kane Jacobs. Lem has 16 years of experience in the design of transportation structures, including bridges, retaining walls and transit stations.

Cary Kopczynski

Panos Trochalakis has been promoted to the level of design engineer at Cary Kopczynski & Co. His previous projects include Microsoft St. Andrews Campus, parking garages for AT&T and the Bellevue Galleria. He is currently at work on the Avalon Hotel in Portland and Metropolitan Park North in Seattle. Rolando Mario has joined the firm as a CAD designer/drafter. He is currently working on Westlake Tower, a 31-story residential building in downtown Seattle.

Esser

Katherine Esser has recently opened Esser Architecture + Design. The firm specializes in residential and community-oriented architecture, and also provides contract service to architects and related professionals.
