HDR

Lynn A. Guttman has joined the Seattle office of HDR Engineering as section manager for the company's water resources program. Prior to joining the firm, she was an independent management consultant and has also been community development and public works director for the city of Bothell. She helped negotiate major water service contracts and has been actively involved in regional policy committees. Ron Owes has joined the firm as section manager for solid waste. He has more than 25 years experience in civil and environmental engineering, primarily in the solid waste field, working on siting studies, transfer stations and landfills.

R.W. Beck

Andrew Hwangbo will join the infrastructure group at R.W. Beck. He was recently an intern with the King County Solid Waste Division. He will initially work on a landfill project for the Fairbanks North Star Borough.

SERA

SERA Architecture of Portland has added eight new members to the staff. Garry Papers has joined the firm as director of urban design. He has more than 14 years of experience with planning and urban design projects in Oregon, Massachusetts and Japan. As urban design consultant to the design team headed by Murase Associates, Papers just completed work on the a park and water feature study in the River District and is currently leading the SERA team that is working on the La Grande, Ore. downtown urban design plan. Alan Scott has joined SERA, and is now working on the Portland Art Museum renovation team and as a project manager for Portland Public Schools. He is on the city of Portland Green Building steering committee and co-chair of the AIA Committee on the Environment. Anita Parker has joined the firm as the project manager for the renovation of Newburg City Hall. She is also on the team for the renovation of Munson Retreat Center at Central Washington University. Ken Christman is member of the Portland Public Schools team and is working on miscellaneous projects for the Department of Labor. He has six years experience in architecture and is also in charge of SERA's network information technology systems. Alan Slusarenko is working on the Munson Center and Newburg City Hall as well as a fitness center for the United States Property and Fiscal Office. Elena Moore comes to SERA from Kiev, Russia. She is involved in archives and library responsibilities. Jin Chen is now involved the creation of downtown design guidelines for La Grande, Oregon. Paul Jeffreys is the project designer for the Chinook Observer office building in Long Beach and is working on the redevelopment of a block in northwest Portland.

Roth Hill

Robin Stice of Roth Hill Engineering Partners has been elected to the board of directors for the Washington Chapter of the American Public Works Association. She is marketing manager for Roth Hill and is also an elected commissioner for the Sammamish Plateau Water and Sewer District in east King County.

Sturman

Sturman Architects has been awarded a contract to provide architectural and engineering services for OmniAmerica Development Corporation. The firm will provide zoning, permit and construction document assistance for a site located in Washington state. Omni is currently in the process of merging with American Tower, making it North America's largest cellular tower developer.

Architettura

David McVey and George Oakley have founded Architettura Design, providing specialized architectural and interior design services, at 525 Belmont Ave. E., Suite 3C, Seattle 98102, 860-8891. McVey and Oakley were both employed at Louis Owen, and worked together for five years there. Both have degrees in architecture, and McVey is a licensed architect. They specialized in restaurant, retail and hospitality design services.

White Shield

White Shield, which provides land surveying, civil and environmental engineering services has moved its Bellevue offices. The address of the new office is 1520 140th Ave. N.E., Suite 100, Bellevue 98005, (425) 641-7800. White Shield is headquartered in Grandview.

Rice Fergus

Rice Fergus Architects has launched a web site, http://www.ricefergus.com, that hosts a gallery of residential and commercial projects. A drafting room provides information on all current jobs out to bid, the project team and the plan holder's list, addenda and bid results. Currently, the joint fire training and emergency services facility for the National Guard is the feature project. It displays a comprehensive master plan for all phases of the $14 million project and an interactive 3-D model of the training tower currently under construction.
