Diane Foreman of Showplace Design & Remodeling in Redmond recently received top honors in the National Kitchen & Bath Association 1999 National Design Contest.

Sparling, a Seattle-based electrical engineering and technology consulting firm, was recently honored with a chairman's award for exceptional participation in the 1998-99 United Way of King County campaign. Nearly 40 percent of employees contributed more than $24,000 to the campaign. Sparling matched the donations for a total gift of more than $48,000.

James C. Peterson has been named an associate at HDR. He has been with the company for 17 years and specializes in water, wastewater and irrigation projects.
Scott Kunnanz has been promoted to associate at Sclater Partners Architects. Before joining the firm, he worked as a CAD manager for Davis Opfer Raab Architecture in Yakima. He is a registered architect in Washington and Oregon.
Mansoor Absan has joined Harding Lawson Associates to head the structural engineering group, and will be based in the firm's Bellevue office. Absan has 15 years of experience with the Illinois Department of Transportation and with engineering firms, and has worked on heavy and light rail projects.
Bob Schottman has joined Otak's Kirkland office as a civil engineer, specializing in water resources and water quality issues. He holds a Ph.D. in agricultural engineering from Cornell University and has 15 years of experience in the engineering industry. Adnan Haddad as joined Otak's Kirkland office and engineer-in-training. He was previously a project designer with Land Development Consultants in Hillsboro, Ore.
Celeste Estes has been promoted to business manager in the Portland office of GeoEngineers. She has been an administrator with the firm for three years. In addition to administrative support and staff supervision, she will monitor project budgets.
Ross S. Heller, recently senior engineering for the city of Tukwila, has joined Perteet Engineering as senior project manager. Heller, who now works in the firm's South Puget Sound regional office in Lakewood, has also served as engineering technician for the city of Des Moines and chief engineer for the John Henry Mine in Black Diamond.
Doug Goodwin has joined Chalker Putnam Collins & Scott as an associate and project manager. He has been with the firm for over six years, and his current projects include Shadow Lake Elementary addition and renovation, Russell Landing at American Lake, and Good Samaritan Orchard Hill Respite Center.
David Talcott has joined the Bellevue office of TransSystems Corporation Consultants as a senior engineer for highway, roads and bridges. He has 18 years of transportation engineering experience in Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Massachusetts and New Mexico.
Venita Van Hamme Brown has joined BOE Architects in Tacoma as a senior architect. She has over 20 years of experience in commercial and public sector architecture and will be managing design of the new Pheonix Inn in Olympia and a spa/great room project at Sun Mountain Lodge in Winthrop. Wilene McIntyre has joined the firm as administration manager, with experience as an office manager and Realtor.
