Pateros treatment plant funded

YAKIMA -- The state Department of Ecology has awarded a $98,000 loan to the city of Pateros for final design work on a new wastewater treatment plant. The system will include a backup mechanism that will allow treatment to continue during equipment failures. It will also will meet new federal requirements for biosolids. Money for the work comes from the state's Water Pollution Control Revolving Fund, which is designed to assist local governments with low-interest loans for water-quality projects. The fund uses monies from both federal and state sources. This year $45 million was available. For further information, contact Ecology at (509) 575-2610.

Ridolfi Engineers finds new habitat

A trio of promotions at Hart Crowser

SEATTLE -- Three employees have been promoted in the Seattle office of environmental engineering firm Hart Crowser. Laura Phillips, the firm's controller, has been promoted to associate. Carl Einberger is now a senior associate hydrogeologist. And Matthew Snell has been promoted to project remediation engineer.

Apply for a Governor's Award

OLYMPIA -- It's time for all good operators to be recognized for their reductions in hazardous substance waste and pollution. The Governor's Awards are given to businesses and public entities that have done outstanding work in pollution prevention in Washington. Organizations that have gone beyond traditional treatment, management and disposal of waste are encouraged to apply. A panel of experts will evaluate the applications. They will look for reduced waste generation through process design, raw material substitution, equipment changes and preventive maintenance. Applicants may also submit other examples of their environmental commitment, such as energy and water conservation, waste recovery and reuse, and solid waste reduction. Mayer/Reed

Mayer/Reed, a Portland-based multi-disciplinary design firm, recently added Jason Anthony and Jason West as graphic designers, James Love as a landscape architect and Billie Kitzman as an administrative assistant. Mayer/Reed was recently awarded one of six U.S. General Services Administration's 1998 Honor Awards, for design of signage at the new Mark A. Hatfield United States Courthouse in Portland.

Seattle Market Center

Deborah Fisk, formerly marketing director for Seattle Gift Center, has been promoted to the newly created position of director of marketing for Seattle Market Center. Olivia Thomsen, formerly marketing assistant, has been promoted to marketing manager for Seattle Design Center. Jennifer Forbes, formerly marketing assistant, has been promoted to marketing manager for the Seattle Gift Center. Seattle Market Center is a property management company managing the operations and marketing of Seattle Gift and Design Centers.

Callison

Menardo T. Cadiz has joined Callison Architecture as a senior design associate specializing in retail design in international markets. For the last three years, Cadiz has owned a retail design firm in Singapore. His projects include Singapore's Suntec City Shopping Mall, Manila's Robinson Place and other projects in China and Dubai.

Entranco

Craig Olson has joined Entranco as a governmental services manager. He has spent the last 13 years lobbying on behalf of the Association of Washington Cities, where he specialized in funding policies associated with transportation projects. At Entranco, he has been working to secure additional funding for the $6.9 million West Main Street project for the City of Battle Ground.

ZGF

Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership has named five new principals in the Seattle office. Karen Gunsul is director of interior design in the Seattle office, with over 21 years of professional experience. Her recent projects include the World Trade Center, the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Phase II, the Safeco Redmond Campus Expansion and a number of facilities for Microsoft. Bill LaPatra is a design principal with office management responsibilities. Since joining the firm in 1989, he has served as senior designer on three science buildings for Western Washington University, Sellen Construction Co.'s corporate office building, and the children's therapy unit at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup. Dave Neal, a project manager with over 27 years of professional experience, has been responsible for the day-to-day management of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center for 11 years. Since joining the firm in 1990, Mike Omura has managed the design of the International District Village Square, the World Trade Center in Seattle, a new academic building for the University of Puget Sound, and the Kirkland and Bothell libraries for the King County library system. Allyn Stellmacher, a design principal with ZGF, joined the firm in 1989. His recent projects include the Millennium Tower for Martin Smith Development, and the Cancer Care Alliance for the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

Reid Middleton

Dave Swanson has been promoted to director of the structural engineering group with Reid Middleton in Everett. He has been with the firm for eight years, and serves as chair of the emergency preparedness committee of the Structural Engineers Association of Washington. He is also active with the American Society of Civil Engineers and represents the engineering community on the Snohomish County Board of Appeals. Brian Moon has joined Reid Middleton as senior engineer. He comes to the firm from Honolulu, where he worked as a project manager and structural engineer on projects throughout the Pacific Rim. Biao (Bill) Huang has joined the firm as a staff engineer. He comes to the firm from W&H Pacific, where he served as a civil designer. Educated in Shanghai, he also has a master's degree in civil engineering from the University of Cincinnati.

Thomas Cook Reed Reinvald

Chuck Ahrens has joined Thomas Cook Reed Reinvald of Tacoma as an architectural intern. He is working on assisted living facilities in Washington, Montana, and California. Sigmund Brudevold has joined the firm as an architect with over 30 years of experience. He has served as a construction administrator for assisted living facilities in Washington and throughout the U.S. Marlene Druker has also joined the firm as an architect with five years of experience, and is working on assisted living facilities across the U.S. Andrew Hickman joined TCRR as a systems manager and architect. He is working on numerous educational facilities. Mark McIntire has joined the firm as an architect. In addition to several educational facilities, he is involved in a renovation for Total Renal Care. Brian Minnich has joined TCRR as an intern architect, and is working on the International Glass Museum. Tom Sams is a new construction administrator at TCRR, with 20 years of experience. He is working on assisted living and educational facilities. Heather Stanley has been hired as a receptionist.

Dykeman

Annette L. Swarmer has joined The Dykeman Architects as marketing manager and proposal coordinator. She brings over five years of marketing experience to the firm and is actively involved in the Society of Marketing Professional Services (SMPS). Scott A. Lucas has joined the firm as an intern architect and CAD systems coordinator. Lucas was previously employed by The Boeing Company as a tool design engineer and manufacturing liaison. Architect Michael A. Barthol has been promoted to principal with The Dykeman Architects. He is currently working with Brown & Cole Grocery Stores on planning, new store development and upgrades to existing facilities. He is also working with the Catholic Archdiocese on an education addition to Holy Rosary Church in Edmonds. Adam B. Clark and Tim Twietmeyer have been promoted to the level of associate principals at The Dykeman Architects. Both joined the firm in 1988. Clark's primary responsibility is project management for all Safeway projects, and he was recently the project architect for the Everett School District's Penny Creek Elementary School. Twietmeyer's recent projects include the Bellevue Galleria, a mixed-use retail and entertainment complex in Bellevue, and the Holy Rosary educational remodel in Edmonds. Thomas P. Hudson and Tim Jewett have been promoted to associate architects. Hudson, who has been with the firm since 1990, has helped to develop CAD capabilities and is currently the project architect for two Safeway projects located in Shoreline and Ballard. Jewett has been with the firm since 1988 as a project architect and is now the project architect for Everett School District's Cascade High School, currently under construction.
