The Washington State Library has named the recipients of the 1999 Govenors Writers Awards. Paul Dorpat and Genevieve McCoy of Seattle were honored for their book, Building Washington: A History of Washington State Public Works, published by Tartu Publications. Henry C. Matthews of Pullman was honored for his book, Kirkland Cutter: Architect in the Land of Promise, published by the University of Washington Press.
Imagio Technology Advertising and Public Relations announced the addition of four staff members. Van Peterson joins the Seattle-based marketing and communications firm as web data architect. Peterson most recently worked as part of the re-engineering effort for Boeing. Eric Fossum comes to Imagio from Publicis and will serve as media planning and marketing analysis manager in his new position. Katie Goodman is a new human resources coordinator. Goodman comes to Imagio from the human resources department at WRQ, Inc. Tracey Nissen joins Imagio as receptionist. Nissen served as an administrative assistant at Microsoft before assuming her new role for Imagio.

Paul Dunning, a recent graduate of the University of Washingtons Visual Communication Design department, has joined Daigle Design as a member of its graphic design team. Daigle Design is a graphic design and web communications company based on Bainbridge Island.

Stuff2Gold, a Seattle-based start-up company, is a new web auction listing designed to help people with little or no computer experience or resources sell their antiques and collectibles. Stuff2Gold will reach online shopping clientele via web auction sites such as eBay and Amazon.com.
Christopher Webb, a principal with 2020 Engineering of Bellingham, has recently received his license as a Professional Civil Engineer in Washington state. A specialist in sustainable development, Webb is co-founder of Sustainable Connections, a local networking and educational forum for environmental businesses. He is also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Before joining 2020 Engineering in 1995, he worked for an engineering consulting firm in the New York City area. He is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire.
Richard Temer and Jeffrey Jenks have joined the team at Reid Middleton Inc. Temer has been hired as a design engineer for Reid Middleton's surface transportation group. Temer comes to the firm from The Boeing Co. in Everett, where he served as a stress analyst. He holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Washington. During his undergraduate work, Temer received the Society of American Military Engineers' Award for academic and military excellence. His three years of engineering experience include work for the King County Materials Laboratory participating in slope stabilization studies and projects. Jeffrey Jenks joins Reid Middleton as an entry-level engineer in the surface transportation group. Jenks recently received his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Washington. He has recently been involved in creating quantity estimates for the I-5 196th Street Interchange project. Reid Middleton is headquartered in Everett and operates branch offices in Anchorage and Portland.
William Sloane has been promoted to principal of Masini, Sanford, Gabrielse & Schoenfeldt Architects in Olympia. Sloane joined MSGS two years ago and is currently project architect for The Olympian newspaper's addition/remodel, Mountain View Elementary School Modernization and the Bowen Office Building. He has 16 years of experience as a licensed architect and is registered in Washington and California. He holds a master's degree in architecture from UCLA. His experience has been primarily in commercial building projects, historic buildings upgrades and medical clinics.
Dennis Adderley has been promoted to principal of Architectural Design West in Burlington. Adderley started with Design West as a draftsman 18 years ago. Since that time, he has been responsible for quality control of construction documents, CADD computer issues and management. He received his architectural license in 1992 and has been a senior associate for six years. He moved to the Northwest in 1994 to help establish the Burlington office and has been involved in design and production of school projects throughout the West. Design West, based in Salt Lake City, is the oldest architectural firm in the United States. Founded in 1889, the firm has several offices in Utah, as well as offices in Sacramento, Pullman and Burlington.
Meritt+Pardini, a Parametrix company, recently promoted Rob Berman from project manager to director of urban design and planning. Berman, who brings 10 years of experience in master planning, transportation planning and planning management, is based in Merritt+Pardini's Seattle office. He is currently working on a variety of projects including the Metro/King County Department of Transportation's Transit Oriented Development project and the city of Seattle's Haller Lake Shops facility programming and site planning project. Merritt+Pardini is an architecture, planning, and interior design firm with offices in Seattle and Tacoma. Established in 1975, Merritt+Pardini merged with Parametrix in 1998. Merritt+Pardini specializes in transportation, municipal, religious and industrial facilities.
Bucher, Willis & Ratliff Corp., a civil engineering and planning consulting firm, has hired Heidi Dlubac and Lisa Grueter as staff planners. Dlubac's experience includes work in urban design and site planning. Her main responsibilities at BWR will include land use analysis studies as well as land use and building permit processing. Dlubac came to BWR from the city of Redmond where she was a development review planner. She received a master's degree in urban planning and policies from the University of Illinois and a bachelor's degree in graphic design from De Paul University, both in Chicago. Grueter will join the firm as a senior planner, and will specialize in current and long-range planning projects, mixed-use redevelopment projects and comprehensive planning. Prior to joining BWR, Greuter was a senior planner at the city of Renton. Grueter has a master's degree in city planning from the University of California at Berkley and a bachelor 's degree in social ecology from the University of California at Irvine. Bucher, Willis & Ratliff is an international engineering, planning and architecture firm with offices in the United States and in Taipei, Taiwan.
DLR Group, an architectural and engineering firm, recently added the following staff in its Seattle and Portland offices: Robert Hutchinson comes to DLR after working with artist Dale Chihuly on the design of the $14 million "Bridge of Glass". Hutchinson will be the project manger of the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab. Peter Alef has worked in the design and planning of justice facilities for 22 years. He has experience in conceptual and schematic designs, as well as planning and programming. A graduate from University of Oregon, most of Alef's projects have been in Oregon, Washington and Arizona. Previously with KMD, his projects include the Multnomah County Detention Center in Portland, the Tillamook County Jail and the Columbia County Jail and Justice Facility in St. Helens, Ore. Qinfeng (Tony) Wei received his bachelor's and master's degrees in China, majoring in architectural design. He received a second master's degree from Arizona State University. Wei has worked in Arizona, Hawaii and China. Since relocating to DLR Group in Seattle, he has been working on the Emerson Elementary School Remodel and Addition for the Seattle School District. Erin Reichman graduated with a bachelor's degree in architecture from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, with one year of study in Scotland. Prior to joining DLR Group, she interned with two Chicago firms, gaining experience in construction documents, site observation and space planning. She is now working on the Seattle School District Support Center Renovation. Jenny Quanrud, an interior designer, is currently designing the interiors of the Seattle School District Support Center Remodel and Hazen High School Auditorium in Renton. Quanrud graduated from the University of Washington in 1996. Gina Gobo joins DLR as a structural engineer-in-training. She received a master's in civil engineering from Portland State University and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Washington. She is working on the structural design of the Bellevue Police Custody/ID Lab and the Hazen High School Auditorium. Cathy 'Ettienne-Augustin is working full time at DLR as an electrical engineering intern, while obtaining a bachelors degree in engineering from Walla Walla College. She is assisting with the electrical design of Emerson Elementary School Renovation and Addition in Seattle and the Hazen High School Auditorium in Renton. Kasey Mason was hired in Seattle to take responsibility for archiving and records management, print orders and supplies. DLR is a multi-disciplinary architecture and engineering firm with 19 offices nationwide.
DOWL Engineers announces that Robert Fitzmaurice, operations manager, and Robert Schildgen, engineering manager, have joined in ownership of the firm. DOWL Engineers is a subsidiary of NANA, an Alaska Regional Native corporation. With offices in Redmond and Anchorage, DOWL Engineers has been providing civil engineering and surveying services in Western Washington since 1988.
Michael Finch recently joined Fletcher Farr Ayotte, an architecture, planning and interior design firm in Portland, as an interior designer. Finch has more than 30 years of professional experience. He comes to FFA from Santa Fe, where he was a partner in his own firm, Gottwald & Finch. His current projects at FFA include the Oregon Supreme Court Library upgrades, the new Westin Hotel in downtown Portland and the Marcus Whitman Hotel Rehabilitation in Walla Walla.
