The Construction Specifications Institute is holding a Jan. 13 seminar in Seattle on submittals and substitutions. Speakers will include architect Grant Gustafson, artist Gerry Tsutakawa and Mike Matter of Baugh Construction. The event will be held 4:15-5:15 p.m. at the College Club at Fifth and Madison downtown. Kare Hjorteset has been promoted to Grade VI project engineer at Berger/ABAM Engineers. Hjorteset's professional experience includes site development, buildings, transportation and marine facilities and offshore structures. His current project is analysis, design, planning and specifications for the La Center Bridge replacement project for Clark County.
Chris Walcott has been promoted to Grade V project engineer. Walcott has experience in condition surveys, seismic evaluations and designs of transportation facilities.
Chris Cornell has also been promoted to Grade VI project engineer. Cornell has civil and structural design experience for bridges, marine facilities and industrial buildings. He specializes in bridge engineering.
Located in Federal Way, Berger/ABAM is a subsidiary of Louis Berger international, an engineering consulting firm based in East Orange, N.J. Berger/ABAM specializes in building, public works, transportation and waterfront projects.
Connie Santroch has joined CDi Mechanical Engineers. Santroch's mechanical engineering experience has focused on healthcare and commercial projects. She is working on the University of Washington's Medical Center Ambulatory Surgery and Treatment Pavilion.
The firm's newest senior mechanical designer is Paul Largy. His current projects include the University of Washington's Medical Center East Tower Surgery Remodel and the Gondola Village Ski Resort for which he is designing boiler and hydraulic piping systems.

Mark Nielsen has relocated from Otak's Lake Oswego, Ore., office as the architecture CAD manager.
Based in Lake Oswego, Ore., Otak is an architecture and engineering firm with local offices in Seattle and Kirkland. Otak offers services in transportation and growth management, urban and community design and natural resource management.
Maurene Leland, administrative assistant, recently joined Parametrix. Previously with a local consulting firm, Leland has eight years of professional experience.
Based in Sumner, Parametrix is an employee-owned engineering, environmental sciences and architectural firm. The firm has several offices throughout Washington and Oregon.
Larry Sauve has joined the Transpo Group as a member of its senior planning staff. Sauve was previously with LRS & Associates.
The Transpo Group is a traffic engineering and transportation consulting firm in Kirkland.
Daniel Moon has joined Hewitt Architects in Seattle. Moon has expertise in retail and interior architecture and in commercial and health care facilities. He is currently working on the Overlake Park-and-Ride Transit Oriented Development project, which combines residential use with an existing transit center and park-and-ride lot.
Tina Song is another new employee. Song, who worked in New York and Singapore, specializes in commercial, residential and health care facilities. She is currently working on the King County Regional Communications and Emergency Coordination Center.
Charles Tantasavasdi is a recent architecture graduate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Tantasavasdi has three years of experience in architecture in Thailand and has extensive knowledge of 2-D and 3-D modeling in computer applications for architecture.
Evan Brinkman is a recent graduate of Tulane University, graduating with a bachelor of architecture. Brinkman has also studied in Spain at the University of Madrid. He is currently working on Carpenters Tower, a mixed-use residential project in Belltown.
The Seattle office of Tetra Tech/KCM recently hired Sherman Klaus as a civil engineer. Sherman has experience in roadway design and stormwater analysis.
Jason Harrell has joined the firm as a design engineer in the water resources group. Harrell's experience includes the design of process piping, drainage facilities, water lines and site grading.
The firm recently hired Tom Spangenberg as a civil engineer. Spangenberg has experience in water resources and hydrologic engineering on various projects in Washington and California. He has worked on numerous hydraulic models, including a two-dimensional computer model of the Columbia River and a physical hydraulic model of sedimentation tanks for the City of San Francisco.
Michael Washington has joined the firm as a mechanical engineer. Previously, Washington worked at King County Metro Transit in the design and construction section.
The firm has hired Donald Larsen, who has experience in the heavy construction field in national and international markets.
Cindy Callan has joined the firm as a civil engineer. Callan recently graduated from the master's program of environmental engineering at the University of Washington.
