Lindal Cedar Homes, a Seattle-based manufacturer of custom-design cedar homes and sunrooms, announced Douglas F. Lindal will retire as president on July 3. Chairman and CEO Robert W. Lindal will re-assume the duties of president following his brother's retirement. Robert Lindal previously served as Lindal Cedar Homes president from 1981 to 1995, when Doug Lindal was named president and chief operating officer. Doug Lindal will continue to serve on the company's board of directors and expects to provide consulting services for sales and marketing.

Dave Brown has joined the Portland office of Berger/ABAM Engineers as the new branch office manager. He is replacing Marvin Byington, who is taking on a technical advisor/senior project manager role for the firm.
Brown's project focus includes street and roadway design and improvement, infrastructure master planning, water supply, distribution and treatment, and site development. Prior to joining the firm, Brown worked for Otak and for David Evans & Associates.
Berger/ABAM Engineers offers services in project management, civil and structural engineering, environmental planning and documentation, and construction management and support. The firm specializes in building, public works, special structure, transportation and waterfront projects.
DEA has promoted Tom Service, the Bellevue survey manager, to vice president of the firm. He has more than 25 years experience in the land surveying profession, focusing on GPS, hydrographic and terrestrial surveys.
Linda Stroud was promoted to marketing director for Washington state, and has been named an associate of the firm. She has more than 17 years of marketing experience in the architecture and engineering industry.
Other new associates of the firm from the Bellevue office are Mike Clark, transportation project manager, Bret Forrester, senior biologist, Bill Garing Sr., transportation engineer, Gary Gervelis, land surveyor, Frank Groznik, environmental project manager, and Jeff Meyer, senior wetland ecologist.
Christopher Lilley and Michael McGavock have been promoted to partners of McGranahan Architects in Tacoma.
Lilley has been with the firm for seven years, working in project management and technology implementation. He recently completed the new city of Sultan Community Center and Library.
McGavock, who has been with McGranahan for 15 years, is programming the new high school for Arlington School District.
The firm has also added four new employees.
Tom Houha comes on board as a project architect. He is working on the design of Redmond High School. He has expertise in 3-D modeling and rendering, and renovation and modernization of commercial and educational facilities.
Mark McIntire joins the firm as a project architect. He is working on the Fawcett Plaza feasibility study for Pierce County. His range of skills includes 3-D modeling and rendering, conceptualization, graphic design and illustration. McIntire is a member of the city of Tacoma Landmarks Commission.
Ruben Nuñez, a project designer, is working on the Pierce County Adult Detention Facility. His experience includes design and modernization of commercial buildings, hospitals and education facilities. Nuñez is president of the South Sound Chapter of the Eco-Building Guild.
Dave Pool, also a project designer, is working on the planning and design of Stewart Elementary and the adjacent Karshner Museum for the Puyallup School District. He brings experience in campus master planning as well as design of hospitals, commercial and educational facilities.
Grant Parthemer joins PAE as an electrical associate with 25 years of electrical design experience in health care, commercial and retail establishments. His design experience includes lighting, power generation and distribution systems. He is working on the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland and Whitman Campus Center.
Frank Saladonis joins the firm with 25 years of experience in the HVAC industry in the field of mechanical system design and installation for commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities. He is working on the Portland International Airport seismic upgrade and the Multnomah County Library Hollywood addition.
Bill Walters joins PAE with 15 years of experience in design and drafting of electrical systems for industrial, commercial, and institutional facilities. He is working on the Louisiana Pacific tenant space in the Fox Tower and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
PAE Consulting Engineers is a mechanical, electrical and lighting design consulting engineering firm in Portland.
Seven new employees have joined Mead Gilman and Associates, a Woodinville land use consulting firm. Anne Forster and Chris Partlow have been hired as survey technicians. Dave Minniear and Steve Paulis are survey party chiefs. Paul Head and Greg Tarver are survey crew personnel

Grove has received a Competitive Excellence in Product Development award from Machine Design magazine and SDRC.
The award was for Grove’s implementation of 3D modeling and design in the development of their machines. Through the use of 3D CAD, Grove been able to bring its product to market in a much shorter time than before

Pacific Edge Software, a Kirkland-based developer of enterprise software solutions that automate the product and service delivery process, announced that Colby Africa has been promoted to chief software architect. Since April 1999, Africa has served as the company's development manager. Africa will be responsible for technology and systems architecture and will oversee all product developers.
Randy Anderson, Marc Pudists and David Ironmonger have been promoted to associates of David Evans and Associates. They work out of DEA's Tacoma office.
Anderson joined the firm last year as engineering manager after working many years for Pierce County. He is currently working on projects for the cities of Fife, Kent, Gig Harbor, and for the Boeing Realty Corp.
Pudists, who joined DEA in 1992, is project manager for the firm's civil engineering group. He has worked on several projects for Good Samaritan Hospital, the Port of Tacoma and private developers.
Ironmonger joined DEA in 1991. He is assistant survey manager for the firm. He has worked on the Tulalip Superfund Site, and has completed projects for Pierce County, the Port of Tacoma, and the cities of Gig Harbor and Fife.
David Evans and Associates is a national engineering firm, specializing in transportation engineering and planning, land development, environmental planning and water resources and telecommunication services.
HBB, a mechanical engineering consulting firm based in Seattle, has hired three engineers.
Scott Schorn, project manager, has experience designing office building, health care, retail, housing, recreational and institutional projects. His assignments at HBB include Ridgeway Hall and the Campus Services Building at Western Washington University and the remodel of the library at Shoreline Community College. Mark Macomber, project engineer, has experience on educational, industrial, laboratory and office building projects. He is working on the High School at Granite Falls, the commissioning of Dunlap Elementary School for the Seattle School District and St. Mary's Coptic Orthodox Church in Lynnwood.
Paul Ristow, project engineer, has experience with educational, health care, industrial, office building, housing, food service and institutional projects. His assignments include North Lake Middle School at Lake Stevens, Islander Middle School on Mercer Island and the Vocational Education Building at Bellingham Technical College.
Kennedy/Jenks Consultants, an environmental engineering firm with local offices in Seattle and Federal Way, has named Edward Kistner as market segment leader for airport engineering. He is the client manager for the ports of Seattle and Portland.
The firm has named Martha Knowlton as regional manager for the firm's Northwest region. She has experience managing investigations and cleanups of hazardous waste sites for industrial, legal and municipal clients.
John Norris has been named the branch manager of the firm's office in Federal Way. He is an environmental scientist with experience in the assessment, closure and remediation of contaminated sites and waste disposal facilities.
Terry Belunes was promoted to office manager of Parametrix's Portland operations. He was the waste management division manager and has been with the firm three years. He managed a team that worked on a major Port of Vancouver remediation project, which involved investigating soil and groundwater impacts from a former industrial facility.
Lindsay Yamane was promoted from associate director of the company's transportation services to director. His expertise ranges from designing roads and highways to light rail and bridges. He joined the firm in 1998 as a senior project manager.
Ross Beckley has been hired as a land-use planner at Reid Middleton. He will review plans and permits for the city of Seattle's Department of Design, Construction and Land Use, and provide environmental and permit assistance for Reid Middleton's clients. Beckley comes to the firm from the city of Normandy Park, where he worked as a permit coordinator and assistant planner.
Nebojsa Mucibabic has joined the Portland office of Economic and Engineering Services. He has experience in planning and water resources development. Mucibabic will oversee design and construction management of several new transmission mains in Clackamas County, Ore.
Derrel Triplett joins EES with experience in process and project engineering. A chemical engineer, Triplett will work out of the company's Bellevue office. He will be working on a chlorination facility for Grays Harbor Public Development Authority.
Andrew Hill, a recent graduate from Northwestern University, will provide entry-level engineering support to the Bellevue office.
Kristie Hartfeil has joined the Portland office of EES as a senior engineer. Her specialties include slope stabilization methods, bioengineering, foundation analysis, embankment design and environmental investigation and remediation.
Jim Cox, a laboratory planner for SRG, has been named senior associate.
Solvei Neiger, a health care project architect, has been promoted to senior associate.
Kirsten Starr, an interior designer, has been promoted to associate.
