Berger/ABAM

Thomas Kress has joined Berger/ABAM Engineers Inc. at the Federal Way office. Kress has more than 25 years of civil engineering experience involving waterfront/marine facilities, public works, transportation and site development projects for both public and private agencies. He is working on the Pier D design/build project for the U.S. Navy and the Thea Foss Waterway remediation.

Vance Parker has joined Berger/ABAM’s Federal Way office. He is a member of the firm’s eight-person, multidiscipline drafting department. Since joining the firm, he has provided computer-aided drafting support for public works, domestic waterfront, and international ports and terminals sectors.

Dennis Dallara has joined as controller in the Federal Way office. As the top financial executive, he is responsible for maintenance and operation of all company accounting and financial functions. Prior to joining Berger/ABAM, he served as managing director and chief financial officer for the Pacific Northwest Ballet, controller for Universal Studios, Inc. and as an audit manager with Coopers & Lybrand.

KPFF

Tom Jones has been named associate at KPFF Consulting Engineers. Jones is working for Quadrant Corp. managing master planning, infrastructure and residential lot design of two urban planned residential developments: Trilogy and Redmond Ridge. Trilogy is a 2,500-unit senior residential community on 1,100 acres. Redmond Ridge is a 1,500-unit residential community on 1,000 acres. He is also working on the Overlake transit-oriented development, the first in the state.

Elliott Bay Design

Elliott Bay Design Group has appointed Charlie Bills to the position of staff operations manager for the naval architecture and marine engineering firm. Coordinating efforts with the project operations manager, he will be responsible for planning and managing the efforts of Elliott Bay Design staff working in support of project managers. His 30 years of maritime experience began at the Coast Guard Academy, leading to positions as deputy commander and base executive at San Juan, Puerto Rico, and commanding officer of the Marine Safety Office in Portland.

Reid Middleton

Philip Brazil has joined Reid Middleton as a senior structural engineer in the structural engineering group, responsible for construction code consulting.

Brazil comes from the International Conference for Building Officials, where he reviewed construction drawings for residential, commercial and industrial buildings. In addition, he served as a liaison to the International Building Code Fire Safety Committee and was a member of the Building and Fire Code Technical Advisory groups of the Washington State Building Code Council.

Berryman & Henigar

Donald Graf has been named vice president and director of business management for Berryman & Henigar's Northwest operations. Berryman & Henigar is a municipal professional services firm with an office in

Seattle. Graf has served in a number of senior executive positions with Black & Veatch Corp., Kennedy/Jenks Consultants and Dames & Moore.

BJSS Duarte Bryant

Mel Murray has been promoted to principal at BJSS Duarte Bryant. Bryant has been with the firm for more 10 years as a project manager for the K-12 division. His recent projects include the award-winning A.G. West Black Hills High School, Bishop Manogue Catholic High School, Spanish Springs High School and Tumwater Middle School

Rafn Co.

Several promotions have been made at Rafn Co. Included are: Shawn Rhode to chief operations officer, Steve Stroming to business unit operations director and Carl Lindstrom to business unit client relations director. Rhode joined Rafn in 1982 as an apprentice carpenter and moved up to engineer, superintendent and general superintendent through the years. In his new role, he will oversee field and business unit operations. Stroming is overseeing operational issues for the commercial business team. He has been with Rafn for 10 years and has worked as an architect, project engineer, project superintendent, team leader, project manager and senior project manager. He holds a bachelor's degree in architecture. Lindstrom's new responsibility is building and maintaining client relationships for the commercial business team. He has 18 years of industry experience and has worked as a project manager and senior project manager. He holds a bachelor's degree in building construction from the University of Washington.

Symonds

Symonds Consulting Engineers has hired Kurt Hoppen as director of projects. Hoppen will provide training, mentoring and monitoring of Symonds' project managers -- overseeing scopes, schedules and budgets. At previous firms, he has worked as director of projects and quality assurance director.

KPFF

KPFF Consulting Engineers recently named Mark Gedosch as an associate. Gedosch is assigned on location at Sound Transit to manage station facilities design for the Martin Luther King Jr. Way section of the Rainier Valley Link light rail. Previously, he was responsible for civil plans and specifications for Sound Transit's Kent and Tukwila commuter rail stations. Other recent projects include the Whitney Hill Bridge for King County and Southeast Eighth Street reconstruction for the city of Bellevue.

Boxwood

Joe Farmer is the new director of graphic design at Boxwood, which provides architectural, interior design and planning services for a range of projects. Farmer has won several national awards for his simple, clean design aesthetic. Boxwood recently acquired Plow Creative, a graphics firm specializing in the design of Web sites, corporate identity programs, signage, wayfinding packages and specialty marketing pieces.

Merritt+Pardini

Merritt+Pardini announced that Michael Meadows has joined the firm as director of the Transit Facilities Studio. Meadows worked with Merritt+Pardini as a project manager, managing the firm’s design of the Kitsap Transit Maintenance and Operations Base. Current projects that he is managing include: Port Angeles International Gateway Transportation Center, Sequim Transit Center and the Lakewood and South Tacoma Commuter Rail Stations.

GeoEngineers

GeoEngineers recently added Dawn Keegan as senior ecologist, Joey Hickey as project manager in its Portland office and Amy King as marketing coordinator in its Redmond office. Keegan's areas of expertise are endangered and threatened species, including preparation of biological assessments and evaluations and environmental impact statement preparation.

Hickey brings more than five years of experience providing environmental consulting services to both the private and public sector. His experience includes underground storage tank decommissioning, subsurface investigations, ESAs, CERCLA investigations and remedial investigations. Hickey is a member of the Willamette Chapter of Certified Hazardous Material Managers, and a member of the Oregon Association of Environmental Professionals. King has a wide range of skills including proposal management, database management, public relations, technical writing and various computer skills.

MulvannyG2 Architects

MulvannyG2 Architects has promoted David Kofahl and Kant Chutikul to design principals, and Peter Lian to senior project designer at its Seattle office. Kofahl will lead the design teams of MulvannyG2's large-scale, mixed-use projects, both regionally and nationally. Chutikul's responsibilities include master planning, conceptual and architectural design, supervising design projects and ensuring design quality throughout the firm. Kofahl specializes in master planning and programming. He has more than 20 years experience designing large-scale mixed-use, retail and resort projects in the U.S. and Asia.

Chutikul specializes in the design of large-scale and complex projects. He has more than 12 years of architecture experience and has designed more than 7 million square feet of office, hotels, sports facilities and high-rise residential projects in the U.S. and Thailand. As senior project designer, Lian will work with project managers and job captains to ensure quality design is integrated into a wide variety of MulvannyG2 projects. He will also continue to have a leading role on the master planning, zoning and urban design of the firm's large-scale, mixed-use projects.

thinktank

thinktank, a marketing company headquartered in Chicago, has opened a Seattle office. The communications company has added two new staff members who will be contributing their account management and creative expertise to the thinktank team.

Joining thinktank will be Rob Topel, a 12-year veteran account director; and Juan Mayans, a bilingual account director and project manager. The backgrounds of Topel and Mayans will add to the diverse team comprising thinktank. They will also help launch two critical thinktank initiatives: development of opportunities throughout the region and establishment of professional partnerships with the Hispanic and Latin American ad community
