AMEC

AMEC Earth & Environmental's Kirkland office is expanding its construction-support services to include non-destructive examination and has hired Greg Schroeter as NDE services manager. NDE services range from the inspection of steel welds to the examination of spray-applied fireproofing. Schroeter brings more than 13 years of NDE experience to AMEC. Schroeter previously worked for Pacific Testing Laboratories and is a specialist in ultrasonic testing of groove welds in the core structure of buildings. He also is qualified to perform ultrasonic, magnetic-particle and liquid-penetrant tests.

Hoffman

Eric Nolander of Hoffman Construction Co. has been honored by Engineering News-Record as a "Top 25 Newsmaker." Nolander was cited for his role in helping bring the cutting-edge architecture of the Experience Music Project into reality. Nolander used 3-D computer modeling to help subcontractors understand the unique forms and materials of the building, taking the "fear-factor" out of their bids. Nolander, who holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Oregon State University, has been with Hoffman since 1990.

Barger

James Clark Design Images, a Seattle-based branding strategies firm for events and corporate identities, announced that Tina Swenson and Aaron Barger have joined the company. Swenson joins as a project manager, responsible for coordinating the project team and communicating with the client. Barger, a production artist, is responsible for technical aspects of design production.

Elevated Transportation Company

The Elevated Transportation Company council elected Dr. Robert Radford to its board of directors. Radford served as principal of Meany Middle School from 1997 to 1999, and principal of Decatur Elementary School from 1994 to 1997. The ETC is charged with developing a plan to build and operate a monorail serving Seattle neighborhoods.

Snohomish County PUD

Snohomish County PUD has named Clair Olivers its new assistant general manager of water resources. Olivers will direct the water utility and its Jackson Hydroelectric Project. He has 25 years of experience with the city of Everett in a variety of engineering and management positions, most recently as the city's director of public works.

Arai/Jackson

Micky Ishida and Greg Ransom are now associates at Arai/Jackson Architects & Planners of Seattle.

Ishida joined the firm in 1998 as an intern and recently became a registered architect. Since joining Arai/Jackson, Ishida has been involved with the Sea-Tac International Airport Satellite Transit System Replacement Refurbishment Program, city of Seattle Southwest Police Precinct and Lake Forest Park City Hall, as well as being project manager for the Bainbridge Island Mixed Use Development.

Ransom brings more than 18 years of experience in the management and design of both public and private sector projects. A senior project architect with Arai/Jackson since 1993, he has led a diversity of projects including the Bellingham Fire Station No. 6, the Des Moines Fire Station No. 26, the Skagit Multimodal Transportation Center and the Cedar Falls Maintenance Facility.

GeoEngineers

GeoEngineers’ Tacoma office recently promoted Stephen Helvey to senior I hydrogeologist and hired Terry McPhetridge as a senior environmental scientist. In addition, Garry Squires transferred to Tacoma from GeoEngineers’ Spokane location. Helvey is a hydrogeologist with more than 11 years of hydrogeological, environmental and geotechnical experience. He is working on identifying geologic hazards for the proposed SR 101 alignment.

McPhetridge brings 13 years of experience that includes environmental consulting, project management, regulatory compliance and technical supervision. He has conducted numerous Phase I and II ESAs, managed complex remedial investigations and feasibility studies under MTCA, and conducted regulatory compliance negotiations with federal and state agencies. Squires is a senior engineer with 20 years of experience in the fields of geotechnical engineering, geology, hydrogeology and mining geology. He has managed comprehensive geotechnical engineering studies, construction monitoring, ESAs, and soil and ground water contamination investigations.

DCI Engineers

Steve Lidicker has been promoted to project manager. His project management experience consists of all phases from design and analysis, through bidding and construction management. Lidicker is currently managing the First Woodinville Office Building in Woodinville, the Yakima Armory and Readiness Center and the Olympic College Physical Plant Building in Bremerton.

R. Scott Douglas has joined DCI as project manager, bringing more than 28 years of structural engineering experience to the firm. Douglas has worked with numerous contractors in the development of major shopping centers using steel stud and metal cladding systems and specialized foundation projects. Among his current projects are Lakeland Town Center in Auburn and the Cloverdale Casino in Cloverdale, Calif.

Mathew H. Wies, project engineer, joined DCI Engineers with credentials including structural design of residential, commercial and industrial buildings in steel, concrete and wood. He is working on the Ted Brown Music Store in Tacoma and AT&T’s Northcreek facility in Bothell. Travis S. Colliander, project engineer, is experienced in lateral and gravity forces design per the 1997 U.B.C. on a variety of architectural structures and materials. He also has experience designing earth-retaining structures. Colliander is working on Tibbits Manor addition in Issaquah, Primex Aerospace Building addition in Redmond and the John C. Cannon assisted living facility in Seattle.

Jacob W. Lund, project engineer, civil division. Lund joined DCI’s Civil Division in October, 2000. His professional experience includes stormwater management, erosion control, hydrology/drainage studies, sanitary sewer and lift station design, site grading and earthwork calculations, water system design, and hydraulic analysis.

Professional Consultants of Snohomish County

@NewsByline:The Professional Consultants of Snohomish County (PCSC) recently made changes to its leadership roster naming: John Bissell, John Bissell & Associates as president; Don Miller, GWC, as vice president; Dave Mitchell, the Jay Group, as treasurer; and Greg Krabbe, Triad Associates, as Engineering Committee chair.

PCSC works with governmental agencies in Snohomish County on the development of land use policies and regulations. PCSC is reviewing proposed revisions to the county's engineering design standards and Planned Residential Development ordinance.

Bush, Roed & Hitchings

@NewsByline:Bush, Roed & Hitchings has hired five new staff members. Leonard DiFrancesco has joined the firm as a design engineer. He has 10 years experience. Current assignments include the real property office building complex in Redmond, a Safeway in Kent and a Sav-on-Drugs in Federal Way. Kristin Terpstra has joined the firm as an engineering aide. Terpstra, who attended WSU, has six months experience. Current projects include street improvements on Newton Street in Seattle, the new Rite Aid in Lacey and a fiber route for 360 Networks.

Jay Hollingsworth has joined the engineering department as a design technician. Current assignments include Tract 43 at Canyon Business Park in Bothell, the Avalon High-Rise development in Bellevue, and the City of Snohomish Welcome Center. Linda Drummer has joined the administrative staff. Drummer provides word processing, marketing and technical document support. Carlos Cardenas has joined the administrative staff as a file administrator.

Cierra Associates

Elmo Acacio recently joined Cierra Associates as project manager. With experience in providing electrical design, consulting and engineering services for public institutions and private corporations, Acacio's experience also includes low voltage electrical engineering systems. His past projects include the Central Terminal Expansion at Sea-Tac; the high rise Metropolitan Park North; and several elementary, middle and high school projects.

David Evans

Daniel J. Scamporlina has joined David Evans and Associates as the Tacoma office's landscape architecture manager. He has 26 years experience in landscape architecture and was formerly employed as the manager planning and development for the Metropolitan Park District of Tacoma. While at Metro Parks, he was project manager for Phase I of the regional Dickman Mill Park site on Ruston Way and was project landscape architect for the design, permitting and construction management of several urban park sites.

David Evans also recently promoted David A. Ironmonger to survey manager. He has provided professional surveying and management services for the Tacoma office for the last nine years. He has also performed and managed projects requiring survey services for topographic, boundary, aerial, design, hydrographic and land title mapping.

URS

@NewsByline:The Seattle office of URS announced that Dale Anderson has received his Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Professional Accreditation. The LEED Program is a building-rating process that provides a measurable level of sustainability for overall building and site design.

The newly established certification became available to design professionals in mid-February by the US Green Business Council. Anderson is one of the first architects in Washington to receive this recognition. He has actively been applying the LEED guidelines since their inception in early 1999.

Anderson serves as senior architect for the URS Facilities Group in Seattle and assists his clients with the added role of sustainable design specialist. He is currently providing sustainable design services to the universities of Washington and Idaho, the Federal Aviation Administration, the United States Army Corps of Engineers and Indian Health Services.
