Universal Ice Blast

Universal Ice Blast appointed Mark Maier P.E. senior engineering manager. Maier will be responsible for engineering functions as well as the ongoing program to expand, establish and protect the Kirkland company's current technology with future patents.

Mayes Testing Engineers

Mayes Testing Engineers recently hired Carlette Carumbana as marketing coordinator. Carumbana is a graduate of Seattle University with over five years of marketing and public relations experience. She previously worked for Honolulu City & County Employees Federal Credit Union. Mayes has offices in Everett, Tacoma and Portland.

Otto Rosenau & Associates

Otto Rosenau & Associates, a geotechnical engineering, special inspection and materials testing company in Seattle, has promoted David Lyal to training supervisor. Lyal has over 15 years of experience in the construction inspection industry.

City of Port Angeles

The city of Port Angeles has been awarded the American Public Works Association Project of the Year (2000) for the first phase of its downtown watermain and sidewalk reconstruction project. The project won in its category for both Washington and the nation. The city's project team included Strider Construction of Bellingham, along with URS Consultants, Northwestern Territories, Lindberg Architects and Primo Construction.

Harris Group

Seattle-based consulting engineering firm Harris Group has added Charles A. "Chuck" Schultz as vice president, forest industries, Midwest region. Schultz provides senior consulting and project management to national and regional customers. Schultz will lead consulting engineering efforts with forest industry companies having locations in the Midwest. Some of Harris Group's national forest industries customers include: Boise Cascade, Georgia-Pacific, Stora Enso, Weyerhaeuser and Willamette Industries. Harris Group ranks fifth among design firms serving pulp and paper mills according to Engineering News Record's Top 500 Design Firms Sourcebook 2001.

Fletcher Farr Ayotte

Fletcher Farr Ayotte, a Portland architecture, planning and interior design firm, recently added four members to its architectural, administrative and interiors staff. Tami White joins the FFA project teams working on models for Linn-Benton Community College, Shaari Torah renovation team, Beaverton School District Transportation and Support Center. Tim Mitchell is a member of the team working on the Mount Rainier Visitors Center and Historic Guidehouse. Ellen Hynson's duties include project set-up, job costing, client billings and assisting in the firm's conversion to a new financial management software system. Jody Giffinis currently working on tenant improvements for the Washington State Treasurer and Auditor and Blue Cross Blue Shield. Ben King is working on Steigerwald Gateway Center and the Sherwood master plan.

MulvannyG2

MulvannyG2 Architecture recently hired Janey Gregory as senior designer and Edward Hing as senior estimator at its Bellevue office. Gregory will assist in the design and development of new and existing retail projects. Her project experience includes 12 Muvico Theater megaplexes in the Southeast and the 14-acre, mixed-use Reston Town Center in Virginia. Hing will be working primarily on estimates of commercial projects. He has 25 years of related experience in South Africa, including working for professional estimating firms, property development firms and building contractors.

Erickson McGovern

Karen Snope has joined the architectural firm of Erickson McGovern in Tacoma as marketing director. Snope has a 16-year school district facility management and construction background. Shawn Queen joins as an architect Intern. Queen is a University of Washington graduate with a construction and commercial design background.

ASCE

Donald Phelps, a water resources consulting engineer from Chelan, was installed recently as director of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He will serve a three-year term as director of ASCE's District 12, which represents Alaska, Washington, Montana, Oregon, Idaho and western Canada. Phelps has chaired the ASCE Environmental and Water Resources Institute's Conferences and Exhibits Council, and is past president of the Washington Society of Professional Engineers. He serves as chairman of the Chelan County Water Conservancy Board.

GeoEngineers

GeoEngineers added Paul McAfee as contracts administrative manager. McAfee brings 14 years of contracting management and negotiation experience in the manufacturing, construction and engineering consulting industries. He will be reviewing and negotiating contracts, drafting and negotiating subcontracting agreements, and overseeing contract compliance. His focus will be on risk management, staff training and assisting project managers with financial management of projects.

Carter & Burgess

The national architectural and engineering firm of Carter & Burgess announced that Karleen Brown has joined the firm as marketing manager with the Seattle Facilities Unit. Brown will help expand facilities design services. Before joining Carter & Burgess, Brown served as a consultant for Sound Transit’s Link Light Rail, where she assisted in the development of document control standards and procedures. The Seattle office is involved in many local projects, including the Port of Seattle Capital Improvement Program Phase II Planning, and was recently awarded the King County Power Distribution Headquarters Replacement project as a subconsultant to Otak
