Cary Kopczynski & Co. hired Shellie Simmons as design engineer. Simmons is working on the Bellevue Place Hyatt Expansion and Escala. Jason Au-Yeung and Matthew Godsey were also hired as interns.
Triad Associates survey CAD Technician Bobby Johnson passed the Fundamentals of Land Surveying exam, earning the designation of Land Surveyor in Training. A second-generation surveyor, Johnson began his career nearly 20 years ago as a survey field crew member with his father's firm.
Group Four, a Bothell-based consulting firm specializing in civil engineering, land surveying, land use planning and biological sciences, said Carolyn Prentice has completed the Certified Arborist examination administered by the International Society of Arboriculture.

Integrus Architecture hired Jade Tipke as office assistant, Sarah Gilbert as project office assistant and Julie Taylor as a specifications writer in training. Tipke recently graduated from Eastern Washington University. Gilbert is working on the Coyote Ridge Corrections Center, the Compton Union Building at Washington State University and U.S. embassy projects. Taylor is assisting with construction administration on Lake Washington School District’s Rachel Carson Elementary. The firm also promoted Faith Kidder to specifications writer and Krista Spilker to marketing assistant. Kidder has been with the firm since 2003, formerly as office assistant. Spilker has worked with the firm since 2006, previously as project office assistant.
Gensler promoted Sidney L. Scarboro and Chad Yoshinobu to principals and Susana Covarrubias to senior associate. Scarboro has 24 years of experience and leads project management in Gensler’s Seattle office. Scarboro is working on projects for T-Mobile, Bank of America and David Barton Gym. A founding member of Gensler Seattle, Yoshinobu serves as design director, specializing in architecture, interiors and master planning. Yoshinobu’s past projects include Boeing, Snoqualmie City Hall and the Las Vegas Monorail. Covarrubias has more than 15 years of experience. Her clients include T-Mobile, Getty Images, Safeco and WPP Companies.
Murray, Smith & Associates promoted Tom Lindberg to principal engineer from senior engineering associate. Lindberg assumes broad project management and business development responsibilities for MSA’s Northwest Washington service area. Lindberg previously served as president of Flowater Engineering and is a water system engineering specialist.
NAC|Architecture promoted Trish Buzan to technology director. The new position was created to establish a manager of day-to-day technology issues within the firm. Buzan joined NAC|Architecture in 1990 as a CADD operator, later becoming the firm’s CADD manager and leader of the firm’s building information modeling efforts.
Shaw hired Dave Alford as regional vice president for the West, responsible for operations in Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Utah, Nevada, Arizona and California. Alford has more than 20 years of experience and specializes in profit/loss management, client and business development, acquisitions, consulting, strategic planning and personnel management. The firm also promoted Kent Kading to vice president of National Practice Program services, comprising core environmental, health and safety consulting, and engineering services. Kading has been with the firm for more than 15 years and has served as the auditing and compliance NPP leader for the past six years.
