Dark Light Design

Cornelius

Takagi

Dark Light Design added two lighting designers, Christine Cornelius and Kana Takagi, to its Seattle office. Cornelius brings six years of experience in lighting design for corporate and technology projects as well as eight years in interior design experience to the Dark Light team. As a project manager, she will provide in-depth design, delivery for project milestones and interdisciplinary coordination from concept through construction. Cornelius received a Bachelor of Fine Arts concentration in Interior Architecture from Cornish College of the Arts. Takagi joins Dark Light as an architectural lighting designer. She will be working to support design efforts through production support, developing lighting calculations, and product research. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Architectural Design form the University of Washington, and will soon graduate with her Master of Architecture with Lighting Design Certificate, also from the University of Washington. Dark Light is a certified woman owned lighting design firm with offices in Seattle and St. Louis. Established in 2008, Dark Light serves owners, developers, and the design community.

Widner

Michelle Widner has joined Architects West as an interior designer in the Spokane office. Her 22-year career includes multiple project types throughout the Inland Northwest and beyond.

Widner received her Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design and Minor in Art History/Business Administration from Washington State University and is a Professional Member of International Interior Design Association. She previously worked for Bernardo Wills Architects.

The Riley Group has hired Mark Washington as an administrative assistant. Washington is a California native and received his associate degree in Computer Science from Fresno City College.

Previously, he worked as an assistant community manager for Housing Hope, as well as a document analyst for a CA based firm.

Salas O'Brien announced the following promotions. Arnold Morrison has been promoted to senior vice president; Mark Knoke has been promoted to vice president; and David Morales and Ken Malette have been elevated to associate vice president.

Morrison has been with Salas O'Brien for six years as an architect in the firm's Seattle office. He is a key professional on the leadership team with project management and technical design skills in the commercial, corporate, civic, federal, and critical environment project sectors. Morrison has more than 18 years of business management experience and has delivered several large-scale projects to market.

Knoke has been with Salas O'Brien for 24 years and has been the project architect on numerous technically complex data center and telecommunications facility additions and remodels. His experience has given him an intricate understanding of specialized facilities projects, such as organizing multi-year building upgrades on continuously active operation centers.

Morales, BIM manager, has been with Salas O'Brien for two years. He is a digital delivery expert with 15 years of experience in Building Information Management, modeling, and digital delivery methodologies for multiple disciplines in the AEC design industry. He leads design teams and project stakeholders to leverage BIM workflows on projects. Morales has comprehensive knowledge and technical design capabilities with parametric and intelligent modeling systems.

Ken Malette has been with Salas O'Brien for two years and has 25 years of combined experience as an architect and as a construction manager. He has led projects in a variety of markets, from public works projects to commercial and industrial buildings. He is currently specializing in two large data centers for a major client.

Architecture firm Mahlum announced the following promotions. In the Portland office, Alyssa Leeviraphan has been promoted to principal and Jason Manson and Jeremy Rear have been elevated to associate principal. In the Seattle office, Jessi Lapano and Nicki Reckziegel have been promoted to associate.

Leeviraphan received a Bachelor of Architecture from Oklahoma State University. She is a registered architect in Oregon and is a LEED Accredited Professional. Leeviraphan has more than 25 years of architectural experience working on numerous educational facilities throughout the Pacific Northwest. She is the leader of Mahlum's Best Practices Group and a leading member of the firm's Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Continuing Education Committee.

She has been with the firm for 22 years and in that time has been involved in all markets. During her early years, she focused primarily on healthcare projects and shifted to education projects in the early 2000s. Leeviraphan has worked with the Forest Grove, Beaverton, Hillsboro, and Eugene School Districts. Her projects include the Grant High School Modernization with Portland Public Schools and the current Portland Public Schools' Cleveland High School Modernization.

Manson graduated from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Architecture and is a registered architect in Oregon and a LEED Accredited Professional. He joined Mahlum in 2010 as a practicing architect.

Over time his role evolved to focus on helping the firm select and use the technology and tools needed to do its work, and eventually to manage all IT at Mahlum. He is responsible for BIM management and implementation, coordinating standards and workflows, and developing content for teams working in Revit. Additionally, he's in charge of technology support and training for Mahlum and orchestrates all areas of digital practice for the firm. He is also a leader in the firm's Best Practices Committee.

Rear holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Oregon. He is a registered architect in Oregon, and former director at the International CPTED Association. He has 27 years of architectural experience and is committed to innovating higher education learning and student living design.

His projects include Taphòytha' Hall at Umpqua Community College. Rear has also worked on projects with Oregon State University and Pacific University. Over his career, he has worked on a variety of project types and his portfolio of work illustrates a wide range of experience. Rear is a proponent of evolving Crime Prevention in Environmental Design (CPTED) practice and collaborates with global partners on progressive research for safe, healthy, and inclusive environments.

Lapano received her Master of Architecture from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pittsburgh. She is a registered architect in the State of Washington.

Lapano has over 10 years of architectural experience, and designs with healthy materials to support occupant wellness. She is a leader in Mahlum's healthcare market. She is an active member of Mahlum's Project Sustainability Leads, Interiors/Healthy Materials Initiative, and Construction Administration Group and advocates for high sustainability standards throughout her projects.

Lapano played an integral role as project architect for Northwest Kidney Center's largest clinic, the Northwest Kidney Center of Seattle – Yesler Terrace. This new state-of-the-art dialysis facility achieved LEED Gold standards and delivers life-changing care to its patients. Other notable projects include her work with Viewlands Elementary School (Seattle Public Schools), Orcas Island K-12 Campus Renovation, Firgrove Elementary School (Puyallup School District), and the Madrona K-8 School (Edmonds School District).

Reckziegel received her Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Master of Architecture from McGill University and is the recipient of the 2014 Canada Council Prix de Rome in Architecture for Emerging Practitioners. She is a registered architect in the State of Washington.

Reckziegel joined Mahlum two years ago and has ten years of architectural experience, seven of which were spent working in Rwanda. Her work is aimed at engaging stakeholders in an inclusive design process and translating organizations' unique missions into impact-driven designs. Projects include the new French American School of Puget Sound where she draws from her experience as a student of French curriculum across Canada to guide her design leadership.

Parametrix

Ryan

Sean Ryan has joined Parametrix as a senior construction manager. He has 26 years of experience providing project management services, including design and construction phase management and quality control and inspections.

Ryan comes to Parametrix from Turner & Townsend Heery where he served as a senior project manager. His project experience includes work on K-12 facilities, healthcare facilities, historical renovations, commercial tenant buildouts, condominium buildings, and midrise residential buildings.

He is a LEED Accredited Professional with a Building Design and Construction Specialty. Ryan is a member of the Construction Management Association of America, Association for Learning Environments, and US Green Building Council.

At Parametrix, he joins the firm's community building division which provides project and construction management, owner's representative, survey, and landscape architecture services to public and private clients throughout the Pacific Northwest. He will be based in the firm's Puyallup office.
