Signature identity on a human scale

Close siting to a major arterial and a billboard-like western façade give the King County Library Service Center in Issaquah a strong public presence. Architects reduced the visual bulk of the service center by arranging simple geometric forms with overlapping metallic planes.

King County’s Library Service Center abandoned its building in downtown Seattle and moved to Issaquah for the same reasons many young families leave the city for the suburbs: room to grow and begin anew.

At its previous location in a monumental blue building on Eighth Avenue between Thomas and Harrison streets, the center served a large network of 41 county libraries from a space designed originally for United Parcel Service.
