Max died way before his time and in the worst kind of way.
Just two years old, the tomcat was snatched in late July 2003 from his owner's front porch by three youths, who then took Max to a nearby school and set him on fire with gasoline. After suffering first, second and third degree burns, the pet had to be euthanized.
