Two locally based technology firms, Hollister-Stier and BioGenetic Ventures, have formed a strategic alliance to leverage development and commercialization of regional university research into market-ready biotechnology products. Under the agreement, BioGenetic Ventures will provide funding for research and product development and Hollister-Stier will secure regulatory approvals for completed research.
CapitalStream, a Seattle-based e-commerce provider of services and applications for the business finance industry, announced a strategic alliance with OANDA, an Internet provider of currency localization tools, information and transaction services. CapitalStream licenses the use of OANDA's Internet-based online currency conversion rates to support CapitalStream.com subscribers engaging in multinational business transactions.
Spencer Technology has graduated from the incubation program at Tri-Cities Enterprise Center and has moved into expanded facilities at 1840 Terminal Drive in Richland. Spencer, which manufactures Metal Matrix Composite bicycle and wheelchair rims, also has merged with Control Tech, a precision machining and manufacturing company that relocated its entire operation from Kent to Richland.
Acadio Corp., a Seattle-based e-learning provider that brings continuing education and training offerings to businesses and professionals, has named Narendra Pathipati executive vice president, chief operating officer and chief financial officer. Pathipati has more than 20 years experience in finance, engineering and development, most recently with Weirton Steel Corp., a $1.4 billion steel manufacturer, where he served as senior vice president responsible for corporate development, strategy and finance.
Carney Badley Smith & Spellman, a Seattle-based law firm, has expanded its government relations practice with the addition of Melvin Sorenson, of counsel with an emphasis on insurance, health care and regulated industries; Scott Hazelgrove, associate with an emphasis on environmental and regulated industries; and Shauny Jaine, as an associate.
Deloitte & Touche announced that Andrew Read has been elected a partner in the Seattle office. Read has more than 10 years of experience serving companies that operate in the manufacturing and high-technology industries, and recently spent two years serving multinational clients in Tokyo with Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. Deloitte & Touche, one of the nation’s leading professional services firms, provides assurance and advisory, tax and management consulting services through 30,000 people in more than 100 U.S. cities

Seth Hill announced his retirement after 15 years of service at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel & Towers. Hill has worked in the Northwest's food and beverage industry for more than 43 years, most recently as director of community and social events at the Sheraton Seattle, where he has worked in various positions since 1984.
Dr. Judy Macgrath-Huge has been named information officer for Seattle Public Schools. Macgrath-Huge will assume responsibility for all technology functions at the District, including computer systems and support, the District's instructional broadcast studio, instructional technology, telecommunications, and library services. She will oversee the implementation of the $25.9 million grant form the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which will be used to accelerate school improvement efforts and assist in school transformation.
Established broker Brian Adams and two younger brokers working with him, Zach Vall-Spinoza and Joe Lynch, left CB Richard Ellis' Eastside office to join Kidder Mathews & Segner. Kidder's Eastside office had recently lost John Concannon, who set out on his own. Kidder the past few years has grown mostly through an expressed strategy of hiring experienced brokers from other firms. CB Richard Ellis, meanwhile, has endured a string of departures the past few years from a combination of brokers forming their own firms and jumping to competing brokerages.
The following people joined Windermere Real Estate as sales associates: Leah Eister in the Seattle-Queen Anne office. Eister previously worked as a sale representative for Sherwood Forest Farms. Rick Shiplett, Seattle-Lakeview office. Shiplett came from ReMax Metro in Seattle. Lauri Cass and her assistant, Deb Blocker, both of whom came from Century 21 Smith/Ring in Bellevue.
Patti Hill has become a sales associate in the John L. Scott Real Estate's Laurelhurst office.
