David Evans and Associates (DEA), an environmental and engineering firm, has hired several employees in its Bellevue office.
Jim St. John joined the firm as a senior transportation engineer. St. John has 17 years of experience in civil engineering design and project management for a variety of road improvement and site development projects. He previously worked with Rosewater Engineering in Seattle and HMH in San Jose. His current work assignments include a hydraulic report on state Route 20 for the Washington State Department of Transportation, and a charter bus facility in the city of SeaTac.
Dean Hobson rejoins DEA as a transportation planner. Prior to joining the firm, Hobson founded and operated CDH Engineering in Washington. He is working on Sound Transit's Kirkland HOV access program.
Michèle Herzberg joins DEA as senior graphic designer.
Kim Hazard joins DEA as a marketing assistant. She previously worked for Earth Consultants and Hosey and Associates Engineering Co., both in Bellevue.
Ned Somerville, owner of The Maids, a professional house cleaning service in Bellevue, was named to The Maids International Winner's Circle, from more than 150 franchise owners, for outstanding operational efficiency. Somerville was honored for his business practices which includes sending four maids who follow a 22-step cleaning process at each home.
WildTangent, a Web-based technology and content company based in Redmond, announced the addition of artist, designer and art director Paul Steed as a producer. Steed will create and direct creations of original content showcasing the company's Web Driver, its compression technology and software development kit. He brings nine years of artistic experience in game development spanning four major game companies — Origin, Iguana Entertainment, Virgin Interactive and most recently id Software.
Melissa Meredith has been hired as production/traffic coordinator at JayRay Ads & PR, a Tacoma-based full-service ad agency. Meredith joins the agency after six years of freelance work. She will oversee project production for clients in banking, health care and the retail industry.
Seattle dentist, Steven Albright, was one of 250 dentists from the United States inducted as a fellow of the International College of Dentists. An honorary organization for the recognition of outstanding and meritorious service to the profession, the College honored Albright for service to the science of dentistry. Albright practices at Lake Union Dentistry in Seattle.

Bullivant Houser Bailey, a law firm with offices throughout the Northwest, has added John Cullen to its Seattle office. Cullen is a member of the firm's business practice group. His practice focuses on business transactions, taxation issues and intellectual property law.
The board of commissioners of Shoreline Wastewater Management District will change its name to the Ronald Water District, effective Jan. 1, 2001. The district was known as Ronald Sewer District until 1992 and was changed to Shoreline Wastewater Management District in an effort to better describe its expanded general service area then known as "the Shoreline community." The board hopes that changing the name back will more clearly identify the district, both within the city of Shoreline and to the surrounding cities and jurisdictions.
StairMaster, a Kirkland-based manufacturer of fitness equipment, announced the formation of a consumer products division. The division is headed up by John Post, previously vice president of sales and marketing. The new division will develop a line of products for the home market by the end of 2001.
Martharose Laffey was recently selected as the new executive director of the Washington State School Directors' Association. Bill Williams, who serves on the North Thurston School District board of directors in Lacey, was elected president of the association. Laffey served eight years as executive director for the National Council for Social Studies, the nation's largest organization for social studies educators. The Northwest Division of McCarthy Building Companies has promoted Jason McKinney to project manager and hired three project engineers. McKinney's new responsibilities include formulating quantity surveys for lead estimators that summarize specific item counts to help ensure accurate bidding on a project. He joined the company last year as an estimating assistant. The new project engineers are Bill Jordan, Nancy Abell and Nicholas Terrile. Jordan recently finished a certificate program in construction management at the University of Washington and holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from the same institution. He previously worked for Boeing as a facilities analyst. Abell has over eight years of industry experience, most recently coordinating volunteers and mechanical subcontractors for Habitat for Humanity in Atlanta. She holds a bachelor's degree in building construction from Michigan State University. Terrile holds a bachelor's degree in construction management from Central Washington University.
Dr. Janelle D. Daane has relocated to Camp Dresser & McKee's Bellevue office. Daane is an environmental, civil and construction engineer with over 16 years of experience developing water supply and sanitation services, as well as disaster assistance. Daane holds a doctorate degree in engineering management from George Washington University, a master's degree in civil engineering from the University of Washington, a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, and a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of South Dakota. The Seattle Housing Authority has hired Michael E. Purdy as purchasing manager. Purdy has spent the past 21 years with the city of Seattle, including the last seven as contracting manager in the Executive Services Department. For SHA, he will be managing its purchasing, construction and consultant contracting programs. He will start his new job on Jan. 2.
