RealNetworks

RealNetworks, a Seattle-based provider of Internet media delivery, announced that Larry Jacobson has been appointed president and chief operating officer. Jacobson most recently was president and chief operating officer of Ticketmaster. He will be responsible for day-to-day management of the company's core operations. In addition, Nagesh Pabbisetty has joined the company as vice president of Real Broadcast Network, the company's hosting solutions division. Pabbisetty was woth Prodigy Communications as managing director of broadband DSL, dial-up and wireless Internet services. Ricardo Cidale has been promoted to vice president of media systems sales for the Americas. Cidale, formerly general manager, Latin America and U.S. Latino, will now directly manage the North and South American media segment of the media systems division of the company, while continuing to oversee its Latin American team.

Portland State University

Portland State University's School of Business Administration and School of Extended Studies has launched an eMBA program, a master of business administration degree combining the university's MBA program with the educational and distance-learning capabilities of the Internet. The three-year program includes four campus-based residencies per year, enhancing the online portion of the classes. The program is the only AACSB-accredited program of its kind in the Northwest.

Foster Pepper & Shefelman

Foster Pepper & Shefelman announced that Peter Jerdee joined the firm as an associate in its Seattle law office. Jerdee's litigation and arbitration practice focuses on securities law, antitrust, intellectual property, professional liability defense, bankruptcy-related litigation and various breach of contract actions.

EverTrust Financial Group

EverTrust Financial Group, an Everett-based holding company, announced the addition of Brian Morse as database manager for the company and its holdings. He will play a key role in the evaluation of new hardware and software products and their associated business impact analysis.

Vitessa

Vitessa Corp., a Seattle-based e-commerce network of suppliers, services and infrastructure, announced that Myra Peterson has joined the company as director of northeast sales operations. Peterson will be responsible for negotiating strategic contracts and bringing new customers to Vitessa.

Parker LePla

Parker LePla, a Seattle-based brand development and high-tech public relations firm, has hired seven new employees. Randy Balogh, Robert Crowther, Kathryn Harper, Briana Marrah and George Sundborg join the firm's Dexter Avenue North office, while Jennifer Savino and Natasha Younes join the firm's Sodo branch, which was opened on First Avenue South in 1999.

Seattle University

Ted Lord, former executive director of the Pride Foundation, has been named acting director of the Joint Center for Nonprofit and Social Enterprise Management and acting head of the Executive Master of Not-For-Profit Leadership Program, a partnership between Seattle University and the region's nonprofit and philanthropic sector. He will serve in that position until a permanent director is named. Lord currently serves on the board of the United Way of King County.

Java Trading Co.

Java Trading Co. of Seattle was recently formed to bring the Java Trading Co. brand and roasting technology to strategic partners around the globe. The company creates strategic partnerships to set up Java PureRoast coffee roasters in the area of distribution. The company’s main goal is to bring Seattle specialty coffee to Japan and Korea. The Lotte Group, with headquarters in Tokyo and Seoul, is working through a subsidiary, Java Trading Asia Co., to open several hundred Seattle style coffeehouses as well as domestic roasting operations to support retail and wholesale expansion.

Betts, Patterson, & Mines

Bradley Rorem and Steve Block have been named as directors of Betts, Patterson & Mines, a Seattle law firm. Rorem practices primarily in the area of commercial litigation, with emphasis on construction and real estate litigation. Block's practice focuses on numerous aspects of transportation and logistics law. He also concentrates his practice on customs, domestic and international business matters, and civil rights.

Virginia Mason Medical Center

Virginia Mason, a regional healthcare system, announced two additions to its staff and one to its board of directors. Gaston Deysine has joined the Federal Way Clinic, orthopedic surgery department, Huong Pham has joined the department of radiation oncology and Terry Macaluso has joined the medical center's health system board of directors. Deysine has completed an internship in general surgery and a residency at the State University of New York. Pham has a special interest in the treatment of brain tumors, radiosurgery and lung cancer. Macaluso is executive vice president, corporate development for the Ackerley Group. She joins the 13 other members of the board who share the responsibilities of overall direction and achievement of Virginia Mason Medical Center.

U.S. Chamber of Commerce

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce presented Washington State Rep. Adam Smith with its 2000 "Spirit of Enterprise" Award for his support for its pro-business legislative agenda in the second session of the 106th Congress. Key 2000 votes included opening markets overseas to U.S. goods and services, and providing tax relief for American small businesses
