Seattle's Union Gospel Mission Legal Services will host a reception for lawyers and law students who have volunteered free legal services to homeless people. The reception will be held on April 22 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the mission's Men's Shelter at 318 Second Ave. Ext. S., near Pioneer Square. Thomasville, N.C.-based Old Dominion Freight Line opened a 31-door service center at 21320 84th Ave. S. in Kent. The center will serve Seattle, Auburn, Bellevue, Everett, Federal Way, Kent, Kirkland, Lynnwood, Puyallup, Redmond, Renton and Tacoma. Old Dominion is a less-than-truckload regional carrier.
Seattle-headquartered Lynden Air Freight, an air and ocean freight company, opened a Detroit station earlier this month. John Garlicki will head the 3,700-square-foot office and warehouse.

Lisa D. Kelley joined law firm Lane Powell Spears Lubersky's Olympia office. She will specialize in workers compensation for employers. Kelley was with the Labor and Industries Division of the Office of the Attorney General in Tacoma. She represented the Department of Labor and Industries for 13 years.
Preston Gates & Ellis hired three associates in its Seattle law office. Kristi Anderson Bjornerud will work on employee benefits and Stacy Heard on family law. Sumeer Singla is a first-year associate and worked at the Washington State Court of Appeals. Jean Kuei is an associate in the firm's Orange County office. Kuei's practice covers employment discrimination and trade secret issues.
