PointSure Insurance Services promoted Craig Pankow to president. Pankow was executive vice president in charge of national sales and operations. Prior to joining PointSure, he was the western regional marketing officer for Willis of North America.
Seattle restaurant El Gaucho promoted Michael Kaminski to ringmaster. Ringmaster is a role similar to that of a maitre d'. Kaminski was an original staff member when El Gaucho opened 10 years ago and is one of six top sommeliers in the United States, as selected by Krug Champagne.
Bellevue-based SinglePoint, a provider of mobile messaging services, announced new hires and executive appointments. Michael Skoff was promoted to CFO and Tom Cast was promoted to vice president of engineering and operations. Arthur Morton is director of operations and Scott Shepherd is director of sales. Morton has worked with Alcatel/Lucent and AT&T Wireless. Shepherd was with Motricity.

Seattle City Light hired Robert Balzar as conservation resources director and Richard Kent as electric engineering division director. Balzar has 30 years experience and was director of marketing and product development for a home builder in Las Vegas. Kent was with the Idaho National Lab in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
The Washington Board of the Society of Professional Journalists awarded Alan Boyle, the science editor of msnbc.com, the 2007 Anderson Almquist Award for distinguished service to journalism. It is the highest honor given by the local chapter. Boyle has also worked as foreign editor of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer and editor of the GlasNews journalism review.
The National Federation of Independent Business/Washington named Curtis Fackler, a Spokane entrepreneur, small-business champion of the year. Fackler owned and operated Payroll Plus between 1992 and 2001, then started U.S. Tax Credit Services. The federation is a national small-business advocacy organization with offices in every state.

The American Red Cross serving King and Kitsap counties elected nine new members to its board of directors. Each will serve three-year terms. They are Jennifer Forbes, an attorney at McGavick Graves; Kristina Greene, a senior medical specialist at Tap Pharmaceutical; Kris L. Hill, vice president and controller of Safeco Corp.; Steve Miller, vice president and COO of Pemco Insurance Co.; Laura Pilcher, youth and young adult board member of the YMCA of Greater Seattle; David Pollock, director of Deloitte Consulting; Susan Reinertson, director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Region 10; Ann Sobil, executive director of sales and marketing at Belo; and Brian Williamson, regulatory analyst for Seattle Children's Hospital Research Institute. James Reitan was re-elected to serve as chairman of the board. He first joined the board of directors in 1994 and worked in personal financial planning and investment.
Attorney General Rob McKenna announced that Senior Assistant Attorney General Michael Shinn has been selected for the 2007 Governor's Award for Leadership in Management. The award recognizes managers who have demonstrated excellence in carrying out their responsibilities.
