King County Superior Court

Gov. Chris Gregoire will appoint Barbara Linde to King County Superior Court. She is the King County District Court chief presiding judge and chairs the King County District Court Executive Committee. Linde replaces Judge Philip G. Hubbard, Jr., who has retired.

Foundation for Early Learning

The Foundation for Early Learning said Don Stark is the new board chair. Stark was a founding partner of the Northwest public affairs firm Gogerty Stark Marriott. He was board chair of Leadership Tomorrow and also serves on the Pacific Northwest advisory board for the Anti-Defamation League. Outgoing foundation Chair Clyde Walker will stay on the board.

Seattle Symphony

Seattle Symphony Music Director Ludovic Morlot appointed Alexander Velinzon as the David & Amy Fulton Concertmaster. He has been assistant concertmaster for the Boston Symphony Orchestra since 2005. He will begin his new role in Seattle in June, succeeding Maria Larionoff, who stepped down at the end of the 2010–2011 season.

Foster Pepper said Vandana Harris, Allison Schwartzman and Sabina Shapiro have been promoted to members in its Seattle office. Harris concentrates on structuring investments and tax consequences. Schwartzman is part of the Municipal Government and Public Finance practice groups. Shapiro is in the Real Estate Practice Group.

Business Wire

Dick Bromley, who played a key role in Business Wire's growth in Europe, will relocate to the U.S. to become group vice president for the Northern California, Pacific Northwest and Asia Pacific region. Bromley will be based in San Francisco and will oversee offices in San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Sacramento, Seattle, Tokyo and Sydney. He joined Business Wire in 2001 as UK sales manager.

The Center for Wooden Boats announced two staff promotions. Eldon Tam is deputy director and Andrew Washburn is historical projects manager. Washburn will retain his role as Cama Beach manager. Tam has served as operations manager at the Seattle museum since 2005.

Lane Powell

Lane Powell hired Dwight Holton in the White Collar Criminal Defense, Regulatory Compliance and Special Investigations Practice. Holton spent nearly 15 years with the U.S. Department of Justice and recently served a term as U.S. Attorney for Oregon, where he led a team of 100 people.

Bichsel Public Affairs

Marianne Bichsel has launched Bichsel Public Affairs, providing public relations, advocacy and services to foundations and nonprofits. Bichsel has been a lobbyist in Olympia, senior advisor and communications director to Greg Nickels, and a communications strategist for Group Health Cooperative. She was most recently managing director of communications for Casey Family Programs.
