Bekins Northwest

Seattle-based Bekins Northwest has signed an agreement to rejoin its interstate moving partner Bekins Van Lines. Bekins Northwest provides moving and storage services for residential, commercial and international needs. Bekins Van Lines are providers of transportation services.

Wonderland Developmental Center

Shoreline-based Wonderland Developmental Center named Mary Kirchoff as executive director and said it got a Verdant Health Commission grant. Kirchoff brings 30 years of business and leadership experience in publishing and entertainment industries such as Hasbro, Wizards of the Coast, 38 Studios, and TOR Books/St. Martin's Press. She was named interim executive director in February. Wonderland is a nonprofit that serves children from birth to six years who have developmental delays and disabilities. Verdant Health Commission works to educate people about healthy lifestyle choices.

Potlatch names CFO

SPOKANE (AP) — Timberland management company Potlatch has named Jerald W. Richards as vice president and chief financial officer. Richards takes over from Eric Cremers, 49, who was recently promoted to president and chief operating officer. Richards, 45, previously served as chief accounting officer at lumber company Weyerhaeuser Co. His appointments are effective on Sept. 1. Potlatch Corp. is based in Spokane.

Retired professor wins $408K award

SEATTLE (AP) — A retired University of Washington professor has won a surprise award worth $408,000 for his contributions to the study of ecology. Retired zoology professor Robert T. Paine had never heard of the International Cosmos Prize until he received a fax from Japan last week telling him he'd won, The Seattle Times reported. The award came from the Commemorative Foundation for the International Garden and Greenery Exposition in Osaka.

The 80-year-old professor, a graduate of Harvard University and the University of Michigan, came to Washington in the late 1960s and under an agreement with the Makah Tribe, he made tiny, uninhabited Tatoosh Island off the northwest tip of the Olympic Peninsula his laboratory. In one influential experiment, he removed a certain species of starfish that preys on mussels from a beach to see what would happen.

Alaska Railroad CEO to step down

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — The chief executive officer of the state-owned Alaska Railroad is stepping down after his three-year contract expires in September. Chris Aadnesen announced his departure at a board of directors meeting Tuesday.

Aadnesen will remain with the railroad through November to help with the transition.

The Cashmere-based Washington Wine Industry Foundation added new board members: Bill Shibley, Stephanie Meier, Bradley Walker, Simon Siegl, and Mark Wheeler. The nonprofit focuses on the grape and wine industry with scholarships, education, outreach, research and other information.

Precision Image Analysis

Kirkland-based Precision Image Analysis named Dr. Scott D. Flamm M.D. as medical director. Flamm is section head for cardiovascular imaging in radiology at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. Precision Image Analysis uses cloud-based HIPAA-compliant IT architecture that facilitates sharing and rapid transfer of data from cardiac MRIs.

Pineapple Hospitality

Bellevue-based Pineapple Hospitality has aquired Hotel Fifty in downtown Portland. The 140-room boutique hotel will be renamed Hotel Rose. Pineapple Hospitality is the hotel management division of Columbia West Properties.
