Redfin

Redfin real estate brokerage said Nela Richardson, Ph.D., will become its first chief economist. Richardson was a senior economist with Bloomberg Government, and has also worked in the mortgage industry, capital markets and financial policy. Redfin CEO Glenn Kelman said she can analyze real-time data on Redfin customers and also track changes in “home-buyer psyche,” wages and other econommic forces. Richardson will be based in Washington, D.C.

Sealaska Corp.

The Juneau-based regional Native corporation Sealaska Corp. appointed Anthony Mallott as president and CEO, starting June 28. Mallott is the son of Byron Mallott, a former Sealaska president and CEO who is on the corporation's board. Anthony Mallott joined Sealaska in 2006 and has been treasurer and chief investment officer. Mallott is replacing Chris McNeil Jr., who is retiring.

Association of School Administrators

The Washington Association of School Administrators hired Helene Paroff as assistant executive director for professional development. Paroff replaces Mack Armstrong. Paroff worked in the NorthEast Washington Educational Service District 101 for over 18 years.

Red Lion Hotels

Quinn

Spokane-based Red Lion Hotels named Brian Quinn senior vice president and chief franchise officer. Quinn will oversee franchise development as the company expands across the United States. He was executive vice president of development at Driftwood Hospitality Management and vice president of upscale development for InterContinental Hotels Group, overseeing growth of the Crowne Plaza and Hotel Indigo brands, and also worked for Hilton Hotels. Red Lion has 54 hotels systemwide.

SBA Star Performer

Rich Shockley was named the 2013 Washington State Small Business Development Center Star Performer by the Small Business Administration. With more than 20 centers across the state, the SBDC provides free one-to-one advising, training and market research to small business owners. Shockley joined SBDC in 2008 and is one of two SBDC advisors at Highline Community College in Des Moines.

PRR, a communications firm, has made some promotions and new hires in the Seattle and mid-Atlantic region offices. Here are the Seattle promotions: Anne Broache to associate II, Emma Mueller to graphic designer, Laura LaBissoniere Miller to associate III and Shannon Roth to associate. Seattle new hires are Susan Bjork as project accountant and Elizabeth Larter as account director. The firm was established in 1981 and has offices in Seattle, Washington, D.C., and Austin.

The law firm of Williams Kastner added Todd W. Blischke as a member in its Seattle office. He will chair the Construction Litigation and Surety Practices Team. He has experience representing contractors, sureties, developers, public agencies and private owners. Blischke was a partner in the Seattle office of a national law firm.

Wood, Smith, Henning & Berman, a law firm with 15 U.S. offices, said Philip B. Grennan will join the Seattle office as partner. He has extensive trial and litigation experience including medical malpractice, construction, products liability, environmental/toxic torts and asbestos product liability.

HMS Ferries

HMS Ferries, Inc., part of HMS Global Maritime, said Captain Matthew Miller has joined the Bainbridge company as vice president. Miller was chief of staff for the 13th Coast Guard District in Seattle, making him second in command for all Coast Guard operations and personnel in the Pacific Northwest, responsible for 4,100 people and a $30 million operating budget. He will focus on management, compliance and training. HMS Global offers international transport, travel, hospitality and support services.

D.A. Davidson & Co.

D.A. Davidson & Co., an investment firm based in the Northwest, said Jason Woodward has joined as vice president, director of new advisor acquisition and training. He was with Merrill Lynch, and will be based in Newport Beach, Calif.
