Dendreon Corp. in Seattle said W. Thomas Amick is the new president and chief executive officer. Amick succeeds John H. Johnson, who previously announced he would step down as president and CEO for personal reasons. Amick was chairman and CEO of Discovery Labs, a specialty biotech company and also worked at Johnson & Johnson for 30 years.

Northwest Interpreters

Vancouver-based Northwest Interpreters, a language services company, has changed its name to NWI Global to reflect its nationwide expansion. The change is driven by NWI Global Vice President of Business Development Vic Marcus, who saw the need for a national resource for American Sign Language and other translation services for corporate clients.

Stokes Lawrence hired Jessica Yu as an associate in the business practice. She comes from Wong Fleming, where she focused on corporate law, immigration, international law and creditors' rights. She will advise businesses on corporate, tax and immigration matters, and is fluent in Korean. Stokes Lawrence has offices in Seattle and Yakima.

AssureStart

AssureStart, a Seattle-based insurance provider, named Sheryl Medeiros as general counsel. AssureStart sells property and general liability insurance to small businesses on the Internet. Medeiros was executive vice president at United Guaranty Corp. and also served as vice president of commercial claims and senior counsel at Safeco Insurance.

Public Health-Seattle & King County

Dr. David Fleming is stepping down after seven years as director of Public Health-Seattle & King County, effective Aug. 11, but will remain on an interim basis as County Health Officer until a replacement is found. Patty Hayes, director of the department's Community Health Services Division, will serve as interim director of Public Health. She has worked in health care as a nurse, academic, consultant and administrator.

Strategies 360 said Marty Loesch has joined the firm as chief operating officer and general counsel. He was chief of staff for Washington Gov. Christine Gregoire. He also was director of inter-governmental affairs and tribal attorney for the Swinomish Indian Tribe. The business and public policy consulting firm has offices in 10 western states and Washington, D.C.

HomeStreet Bank

HomeStreet Bank has opened a new bank branch in the Greenlake neighborhood on Northeast 72nd Street, next to the new PCC store. The branch will be managed by Gabriel Castillo, who formerly managed HomeStreet's Fremont branch and has 30 years of experience. HomeStreet has 88 retail deposit branches and lending centers in the western United States and Hawaii.

Jordan Ramis shareholder Leta E. Gorman has been voted into a three-year term as secretary-treasurer of the International Association of Defense Counsel, which takes a leadership role in legal reform and professional development. She is co-chair of the firm's litigation team in Portland and focuses on insurance coverage, product liability defense and business disputes. The firm also has offices in Vancouver and Bend.

Stewart has earned the Certified Realtime Reporter certification, which reflects knowledge of technology, proficiency and accuracy. Stewart is from Graham and has been a court reporter for 33 years. She works for Moburg, Seaton & Watkins in Seattle.
