The national group Transportation For America selected Pierce County Councilmember Derek Young for the 2016 Transportation Leadership Academy, which focuses on teaching local leaders how to maximize transportation spending. Young will take part in workshops and online training.

Washington State University

The founding dean of The Edward R. Murrow College of Communication, Lawrence Pintak, will step down at the end of the semester to begin a year of research and reporting about Islam and the U.S. presidential election. Pintak, a former CBS News correspondent who holds a Ph.D. in Islamic studies, plans to write a book about Islam and the election.
