Lane Powell shareholder Bryan E. Powell has been elected a fellow of the American College of Mortgage Attorneys. He is co-chair of the firm's Real Estate and Land Use Practice Groups.
Central Washington University appointed Lauren Zeutenhorst to a new position: director of executive events, primarily for the Division of Academic and Student Life. She also will manage the use of University House. Zeutenhorst will lead commencement, convocations, receptions and other annual ceremonies. She held a similar position at Boston College.

David Devine, senior vice president and marketing director for Columbia Bank, was recognized by the American Bankers Association Foundation with the George Bailey Distinguished Service Award for his work with homeless people in the Northwest. Columbia Bank started Warm Hearts Winter Drive in 2015 to help shelters in three states with cash donations and clothing collected at 140 bank branches. The program raised more than $150,000 and collected nearly 12,000 articles of winter wear.

Elle Barksdale Loe has opened an office at 2819 Elliott Ave. in Seattle for Elle Barksdale and Co., a full-service public relations firm specializing in web-based services. EBC provides web design/management services, social media marketing and brand management, and assists with digital publicity. Clients include entertainment, fashion, beauty, restaurants, corporations, health/fitness, music and modeling.

Gov. Jay Inslee appointed Janet Frost to the Washington STEM Education Innovation Alliance, which advises the governor about policies to advance science, technology, engineering, mathematics education. Frost is a clinical associate professor of mathematics education in Washington State University's College of Education. The alliance is part of the Washington Student Achievement Council.
Nativis, Inc., a Seattle clinical stage life science bio-electronic company developing treatments for cancers and other diseases, named Charles (Charlie) McNerney to the board of directors. McNerney has over 24 years of multi-disciplinary experience in the tech sector.

Thrive Washington's board of directors said Alan Cohen will lead the public-private partnership for early learning, starting Nov. 7. He was assistant superintendent of early childhood education for Dallas Independent School District and most recently worked at Commit!, an education-focused nonprofit in Dallas.

Medical Teams International gave its first Humanitarian Woman of the Year award to Phyllis Cavens, MD. Cavens was on the first Medical Teams mission trip in 1979 to Cambodia's “killing fields” and has provided refugee and disaster medical care in over 10 countries. She is a pediatrician and medical director of the Child and Adolescent Clinic in Longview.
