Ascensus Specialties

Ascensus Specialties hired Mario Sandoval as vice president of supply chain and operations, and Gene Shields as chief information officer. The company is expanding production at its Elma manufacturing plant by more than 15 percent. The upgrades, expected to be operational by year end, will boost production of sodium borohydride, a reducing agent used in pharmaceutical processes. Ascensus is a Wind Point Partners portfolio company.

HomeStreet Bank

Cindy Shirley is the new crew chief for the Miss HomeStreet hydroplane team, sponsored by Seattle-based HomeStreet Bank. Shirley is the first woman to lead a championship-level team in the modern era of professional hydroplane racing. She has been with the team for 15 years, most recently as boat chief. When not racing, Shirley is director of the Office of Research at the University of Washington Bothell. Former crew chief Dan Hoover died earlier this year.

SCI Solutions

SCI Solutions, a provider of patient scheduling and referral software, acquired DatStat, a developer of patient engagement and digital health tools. Financial terms were not disclosed. The combined company is headquartered in Seattle.

Erado

Seattle-based Erado was bought by email security specialist Zix Corp. of Dallas. Erado provides archiving, supervision, eDiscovery and analytics for the financial sector.

UiPath

Kahlon

UiPath, a robotic process automation software company, opened a product development center in Bellevue focusing on AI. Param Kahlon, a former Microsoft and SAP Labs manager, was appointed chief product officer in Bellevue. Kahlon will also lead product teams in Bangalore and Bucharest. UiPath is based in New York City and has offices in 14 countries.

Seattle Center

Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan announced Robert Nellams, who was set to retire in May, will remain as director of Seattle Center. Nellams has been director since 2006, and spent more than 20 years at Seattle Center. Marshall Foster, director of the Office of the Waterfront, will work with Nellams on renovating Seattle Center Arena and Memorial Stadium, as well as pedestrian and transportation initiatives.

UW

UW athletic director Jennifer Smith Cohen won the Carolyn Helman Lichtenberg Crest Award from Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for Women. Cohen is the only female athletic director in the Pac-12 Conference. The award recognizes leadership and volunteer service.

KeyBank

KeyBank donated over $1.9 million to area nonprofits, including $300,000 to the Consulting and Business Development Center at the University of Washington's Foster School of Business and another $300,000 to UW Tacoma's Opportunity Academy, which supports UWT students. KeyBank is based in Cleveland. Carol Nelson is Pacific regional sales executive and Seattle market president.
