Seattle-based First Sound Bank appointed Joshua Menard assistant vice president and relationship manager. Menard has nearly 10 years of financial services experience, most recently as a branch manager for U.S. Bank in Seattle. He is a member of First Sound's commercial lending practice.
In Seattle, Sound Financial Bancorp and its subsidiary Sound Community Bank hired Daphne Kelley as CFO. Kelley was controller and senior vice president of a Seattle-based regional bank for three years. Before that, she held similar roles at the Federal Home Loan Bank of Seattle.
Ben Elowitz joined Madrona Venture Labs as managing director. Elowitz co-founded two companies, Blue Nile and Wetpaint, and was an early employee in the e-commerce company Fatbrain. He also has been an angel investor, advisor and CEO coach for West Coast startups. Madrona Venture Labs helps startup companies as part of Madrona Venture Group in Seattle.
NexGen Mining signed a mining lease and option-to-buy agreement for 200 acres in the Cascades from Vesper Resources LLC. The land in Snohomish County includes Mackinaw Mine, with concentrations of nickel, copper, cobalt and gold. NexGen is based in Reno, Nevada.

Jennifer Antos is the new executive director of Neighborhood Farmers Market Alliance in Seattle. Antos has more than 15 years of experience in program management, nonprofit finance, events and customer experience, most recently at IslandWood, an environmental education organization on Bainbridge Island. She replaces Chris Curtis, who is working with the alliance on special projects through year end.
Dennis Schatz, a 41-year veteran and senior advisor at Pacific Science Center, is president-elect of the National Science Teachers Association for 2018-19. Schatz is also field editor for NSTA's Connected Science Learning program. He will become president on June 1, 2019.
Two Bothell firms founded by Dave Pavlu are now one. Conversion Logix, founded in 2010 by Pavlu and Jeff Jobe, bought Ascendance Digital Media, founded in 2008 by Pavlu. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Conversion Logix is a digital advertising agency with a focus on multifamily housing, senior living and hotels. Ascendance provides digital advertising campaigns under AdsUpNow, focusing on the automotive industry and local retail.

George Geissler was appointed Washington state forester and deputy supervisor for wildfire at the Department of Natural Resources in Olympia. Geissler was director of forestry services and state forester with Oklahoma Department of Agriculture. He also worked in private forest management, and as a wildland firefighter and forester for the Forest Service in Idaho.
The Washington Coalition for Open Government added four members to its board: Rachel Alexander, a reporter with the Spokane Spokesman-Review; Casey M. Bruner, an attorney at Witherspoon Kelley in Spokane; Stephanie Olson, a litigation associate at Klinedinst Seattle; and Dale Phelps, executive editor of The News Tribune in Tacoma. The coalition is a government watchdog.
San Francisco tech company OneLogin opened a development center at 7530 164th Ave. N.E. in Redmond. It also raised an additional $22.5 million in financing to fund operations. The company develops access management software for private data centers and in the cloud.
