Emergency Food Network

Michelle Douglas was named executive director of Emergency Food Network in Lakewood. Douglas is EFN's deputy director, and was executive director at Rainbow Center and operations manager at the Center for Dialogue & Resolution, both in Tacoma. She will assume her new position in October when Helen McGovern-Pilant retires after 10 years of heading the nonprofit.

Sustainable Seattle

Sustainable Seattle named Em Piro executive director of the organization that focuses on environmental, social and economic issues. Piro's background is in performing arts, nonprofit management and sustainability, including the founding of a performing arts incubator in St. Louis. She succeeds BJ Cummings.

King County Metro

King County Metro was named the best large transit system in North America by the American Public Transportation Association, a public transit advocacy organization. The group cited increasing ridership, reduced fares for lower-income people, improving safety and more zero-emission buses. King County Executive Dow Constantine and Metro General Manager Rob Gannon will receive the award Sept. 25.

Army Corps of Engineers

Helmlinger

In Portland, Brig. Gen. D. Peter Helmlinger assumed command of the Northwestern Division office of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Helmlinger succeeds Col. Torrey A. DiCiro in overseeing a multi-billion annual program in civil works, military construction and environmental restoration in 14 states. Helmlinger was commander for the South Pacific Division in San Francisco.

City of Seattle

The city of Seattle promoted Tiffany Washington to the newly created position of deputy director of homelessness in the Human Services department, and Calvin Goings to director of Finance and Administrative Services. Washington was division director of homeless strategy and investments in Human Services. Goings was chief of staff at Seattle City Light, will become FAS director pending City County confirmation. Fred Podesta, current FAS director, will head up the expanding Navigation Team in Human Services. The team connects homeless people with services and shelter.

Coreo Fitness

Coreo Fitness is opening Seattle's first bungee workout studio at 508 First Ave. N. in Uptown. The studio website has classes scheduled for Saturday, and a grand opening Aug. 18-19. Tiffany Kung is the founder.

Spaceworks Tacoma

Michael Liang is the new program director of Spaceworks Tacoma, a business incubator for the creative community. Liang spent 10 years with the National Park Service, supporting creative media efforts in over 80 parks. Spaceworks started eight years ago to fill vacant downtown storefronts with art, events and businesses, and now offers training and support for artists and entrepreneurs.

Banner

Walla Walla-based Banner Corp. is acquiring Burlington-based Skagit Bancorp in an all-stock transaction. Upon completion of the deal late this year, Skagit CEO Cheryl R. Bishop will join the Banner board of directors. Banner Corp. is the holding company for Banner Bank and Islanders Bank, and Skagit Bancorp is the holding company for Skagit Bank. The combined company will have about $11.4 billion in assets.

Mercer

Trisha Tyler, Mercer's Pacific Northwest health business leader, was named 2018 Female Leader of the Year by the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. Tyler was recognized for advancing gender equity in workplaces and the community. Mercer is a global consultant on health, wealth and careers. It's a subsidiary of Marsh & McLennan Companies.
