McNeil

Bruce J. McNeil joined Stoel Rives' Seattle office as a partner in the Employee Benefits group. McNeil has more than 35 years of experience, and has authored 34 books and written over 100 articles on employee benefits. He comes from The Wagner Law Group in Boston.

City of Everett

Sass

Ryan Sass is the new director of Everett Public Works Department. Sass is a licensed civil engineer who joined the city in 1992 as an engineer in the Parks Department, and in 2004 became city engineer. He replaces Paul Kaftanski, who has been interim director for most of the year and will continue as executive director.

City of DuPont

DuPont City Council confirmed Douglas Newman as the new police chief and Andrew Takata as city administrator. Newman has over 23 years of experience in law enforcement and was a commander at the Port of Seattle Police Department. Takata has more than 35 years of experience in municipal government, including over 20 years managing cities in California.

King County

The King County Council confirmed the appointments of Leonardo Flor as director of the Department of Community and Human Services, and John Taylor as director of the Department of Local Services. Flor joined the department management team in 2016, and led a plan to renew and expand the veterans, seniors and human services levy. Taylor was assistant director of the county's Water and Land Resource Division.

Have a Heart

Seattle-based cannabis retailer Have a Heart acquired CannaMLS, an online forum to view and post cannabis businesses for sale. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

DESC

Bank of America awarded Downtown Emergency Service Center a $200,000 Neighborhood Builders grant. The program helps organizations that work with homeless and formerly homeless adults with mental illnesses, substance use disorders or physical disabilities. DESC has a two-year plan to integrate behavioral and physical health care services, and to expand health care for increasingly ill and aging clients.

University of Washington

Hodge

Frank Hodge is the incoming dean of the University of Washington's Foster School of Business. Hodge is a longtime UW professor and has chaired the Department of Accounting since 2013. His appointment will begin July 9, 2019, subject to UW Board of Regents approval. He will replace James Jiambalvo, who has served since 2005 and will return to the faculty.

Embassy Suites

Embassy Suites Seattle Downtown-Pioneer Square hired Nicholas Kuhns as general manager, Riccardo Marossa as director of sales and marketing, Nickie Andrews as director of catering and events, and Amy Sant as senior catering sales manager. Kuhns was assistant general manager at Hilton Salt Lake City Center. Marossa directed sales and marketing at Embassy Suites by Hilton Seattle Bellevue and Hotel Theodore in Seattle. Andrews directed catering at InterContinental New York Barclay and was senior catering sales manager at Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York. Sant was senior catering sales manager at Hilton Santa Barbara Beachfront Resort.

Sound Community Bank

Laurie Stewart, president and CEO of Sound Community Bank, was named Community Banker of the Year by American Banker magazine. Stewart has been with the bank for 29 years, and led its conversion from a $38 million credit union to a $720 million publicly traded commercial bank.
