After a two-year search, the Museum of Flight announced that Matthew R. Burchette will become senior curator on Sept. 3. Burchette has been curator since 2005 at Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum in Denver. Before that, he was education director and assistant curator at Lone Star Flight Museum in Texas.
In Seattle, Drex DeFord joined CI Security as health care executive strategist. DeFord has three decades of CIO experience, with a career spanning both coasts. He was CIO at Scripps Health, Seattle Children's, Steward Healthcare and the U.S. Air Force. CI Security provides managed detection and response and cybersecurity solutions.
Homewood Holdings LLC bought Lakewood-based Custom Choice Door for an undisclosed amount. Founded in 2007 by Ted Matthews and Alan Pascoe, Custom Choice supplies doors and millwork to local builders, contractors and DIY homeowners. Matthews remains as president. In the Seattle area, Homewood has bought Evergreen Lumber and Eagle Creek Siding. It is seeking to partner with and/or buy independent pro dealers, component manufacturers and service providers throughout the West. Homewood is part of the investment firm Building Industry Partners, which has offices in New York, Boston and Dallas.
John Lauer of Zipwhip was ranked the 29th best CEO nationwide for women by Comparably. The ranking is based on anonymous reviews from female employees; Lauer scored 97 out of 100. Seattle-based Zipwhip provides texting for businesses.
Stewardship Partners moved into new offices in Pioneer Square. The address is 80 Yesler Way, Suite 315, Seattle, WA 98104. The nonprofit helps landowners protect the environment with projects that restore fish and wildlife habitat, improve water quality, protect open space and “green up” the built environment.

Of counsel attorneys Adam Coady, Alexandra Kleeman and Nathan Luce are now partners in the Seattle office of Stoel Rives. Coady is a partner in the firm's Real Estate, Development & Construction group, where he focuses on commercial real estate transactions and leasing. Kleeman is a partner in the firm's Environmental, Land Use and Natural Resources group. She assists buyers, developers, lenders, landlords and industrial operators with environmental and regulatory matters. Luce also is a partner in the Real Estate, Development & Construction group. He represents buyers, sellers and lenders in the acquisition, disposition, development and financing of commercial, retail and multifamily projects.
Linda Magee joined Pemco Insurance as controller. Magee has over 25 years of experience in the insurance industry, including stints as senior director of finance at the nonprofit Washington State Hospital Association, CFO at AssureStart insurance agency and vice president of financial analysis at SeaBright Insurance.
In Seattle, Keller Rohrback named Ryan McDevitt and Matt Gerend as partners. Both practice in the firm's Complex Litigation group. McDevitt played a significant role in achieving and administering landmark settlements on behalf of drivers of diesel Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Ram and Jeep vehicles. Gerend focuses on litigation brought under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.
Seattle-based Brightwork Consulting hired Mae Regalado as senior consultant to lead a large healthcare IT project in the Los Angeles area and Alyson Lewis as senior consultant to lead a large healthcare IT project in the Denver area. Regalado has more than 20 years of leadership experience on data management and integration projects. Lewis has over 10 years of experience with IT implementation. Brightwork is a risk management, change management and business strategy consultant.
Thirteen communities won 2019 Smart Communities Awards from the state Department of Commerce. Smart Vision Award winners were the cities of Prosser and Lakewood. This award recognizes outstanding comprehensive plans, sub-area plans or county-wide planning policies. Smart Choices Awards went to Island County and the cities of Blaine and Vancouver. This award recognizes excellence in implementation of a comprehensive plan. Smart Projects Award winners were Intercity Transit and the city of Bellingham. They were cited for outstanding projects in the implementation of a comprehensive plan. Smart Partnership Awards went to the cities of Walla Walla, Colville, Tukwila and their partners. This award recognizes achievements by a joint public project that implements a comprehensive plan. Smart Housing Strategies Award winners were Island County and the city of Tacoma. They were cited for creative plans, policies, programs and/or actions to address affordable housing. The city of Bonney Lake won the Judges' Merit Award for its watershed protection policies and land use planning.
