Cascade Plastics

Cascade Plastics has purchased the custom molding business and related assets of Production Plastics and moved from Tacoma to Puyallup. The new facility, which houses 15 molding machines, a mold making and tool repair room and secondary operations facilities for molded parts, will be hosting an open house on June 16, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at their new location, 7009 45th Street Court E.

Seattle Executives Association

Dave Salzberg, president of nationwide Roth Young Personnel, will replace Earl Brown as president of the Seattle Executives Association, an organization whose goal is to promote business for its 121 member firms. Salzberg has worked for Roth Young since 1991 and was selected Account Executive of the Year for the United States in 1994. Prior to joining Roth Young, he was an executive with the retail food industry for over twenty-five years. Other officers of the Seattle Executives Association include: Mike Sherry, Alexander Hutton, first vice president; Gary Beck, Republic Parking Northwest, second vice president; and Wayne DeMeester, Kemper Securities, treasurer. New board members are Darrell Beetham, Dick Pakko and George Vestal. They join Jeff Altchech, Craig Dander, Suzanne Giovannoni, Jeri Lafromboise, Brian Westerlund and Cam Wilson. Video Software Dealers Association Mark Vrieling has been elected to the national board of directors of the Video Software Dealers Association, an international trade association of the home video entertainment industry, for a three-year term. Vrieling is owner of Rain City Video, a chain of three video stores located in Seattle, and co-owner of Work & Play, a Seattle-based multimedia production company. The Video Software Dealers Association members represent more than 20,000 retail locations -- small, independently owned video retailers as well as large video chains. Members also include the home video divisions of motion picture studios, video distributors, and other associated businesses.

Seattle V.I.P.

Seattle V.I.P., a convention, meeting, and event management company, has promoted Jani Lauvrak to sales manager. Lauvrak began her career in 1988 as director of sales for the Eastside-King County Convention and Visitors Bureau. She joined Seattle V.I.P. in 1990 as the person responsible for new business development. Seattle V.I.P. has also added Dana Perlin Eckoff as meetings manager. Previously, Eckoff worked with the Atlanta Health Care Alliance, the Georgia Newspaper Association, the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians, and other professional associations.

Mathers Controls Inc.

Burlington-based Mathers Controls Inc., a manufacturer of marine electronic controls, has appointed Fisheries Supply Company of Seattle as its sole distributor of its line of light commercial and recreational marine controls in Washington and Alaska. Fisheries Supply Company of Seattle is a 67-year-old distributor of marine accessories.

Cornerstone Communications

Seattle-based Cornerstone Communications, a video services company, has added Phil Polizatto as a writer, producer and director. Polizatto's background includes more than 13 years as a corporate video producer, most recently with Boeing. His work has garnered national and international awards.

Department of Social & Health Services

State department of Social & Health Services has named superintendents for three state juvenile rehabilitation centers and for a school. Don Mead, a former juvenile rehabilitation director in San Francisco, Calif., will manage the Echo Glen Children's Center in Snoqualmie. Previously, Mead earned accreditation of the first residential treatment program by the American Correctional Association (ACA) and established a national juvenile detention resource center that was sponsored by the ACA and U.S. Department of Justice to provide technical assistance to institutions. Arthur D. Schmidt, former superintendent of the Palmer Correctional Center in Wasilla, Alaska, will supervise the Green Hill School in Chehalis. Schmidt has nearly 20 years of experience with corrections systems in Alaska. Donald G. Bonamy will run the Indian Ridge Youth Camp in Arlington. Bonamy served as superintendent of Indian Ridge when it was an adult corrections center under the state Department of Corrections. Formerly, he was superintendent of the Monroe Special Offender Center, a 144-bed institution specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of chronic mentally ill offenders. Dr. Asha Singh has been appointed as medical superintendent at Fircrest School in Seattle. She is the former school's medical director, a position she held since 1990. Previously, she was a staff physician in Lakeland Village, another DSHS residential care center for people with developmental disabilities located near Spokane.

The Global Online Services Summit

Focusing on world wide web and interactive multimedia in Europe, Asia, and North America, the Global Online Services Summit will take place at the Sheraton Hotel of Brussels in Belgium from May 31 to June 2. FourGen Software Inc.

Fourgen Software Inc., a Seattle-based developer of business applications software, has named Mike McHenry as major account manager and Bill Redinger as western regional sales director. Previously, McHenry was district sales manager for Bellevue-based Knowledge Ware Inc. Prior to joining FourGen, Redinger directed Northwest sales as regional branch manager at Oracle Corp.

Yantai Agreement

A sister city agreement designed to enhance international goodwill and increase trade was recently finalized in Olympia by the Port of Olympia and the Port Authority of Yantai, a rapidly expanding Chinese port on the Yellow Sea. The signing by Yantai Port Director Zhu Yi and Port of Olympia Commissioner Jeff Dickison finalized an agreement that commenced last fall when a similar signing ceremony was held in China. Yantai port officials are particularly interested in exporting certain agricultural products from Washington state.
