William Bradford, dean of the University of Washington School of Business Administration, has been elected to the board of directors of The Commerce Bancorporation. In addition to serving as dean, Bradford also holds the position of professor of finance. He is knwon around the country for his work on capital formulation for minority enterprises, having done considerable research and authored many publications related to financial institutions and minority business. Bradford also serves as a director of the Pacific Coast Banking School and on the advisory board of the Pacific Rim Bankers Program.
Bellevue-based Accounting Partners, a provider of temporary and permanent accounting and finance staff, recently opened its third office, in Menlo Park, Calif. The firm was founded less than two years ago and is owned by Ted and Stephanie Macauley.
Washington State University has received a $250,000 gift from Chateau Ste. Michelle's winery that is expected to strengthen viticulture research at the university and further enhance the quality of Washington wines. The gift will endow a distinguished professorship at WSU-Prosser. Longtime viticulture researcher Robert Wample will be appointed to the professorship. Wample joined the WSU faculty in 1976 and transferred his research program to Prosser in 1986. He was lead author of a paper that was recognized as the best viticulture article published in The American Journal of Ecology and Viticulture for 1993. The article reported results by a team of WSU scientists who, in collaboration with Chateau Ste. Michelle at their Cold Creek Vineyard, showed that growers don't need to apply as much nitrogen fertilizer as had become the industry standard.

Stanley O. McNaughton, chairman of the board and president of Pemco Insurance Companies, has received the First Citizen Award of the Seattle-King County Association of Realtors for outstanding community service. McNaughton has served on a dozen boards, including the advisory board for Channel 9 (KCTS-TV), the Discovery Institute, and the King County Boys and Girls Club. He is also president of the Foundation of Private Enterprise Education (Washington Business Week) and treasurer of Seattle Schools (Fund for Excellence). McNaughton started his career as administrative assistant to the president of Seattle University, and later worked as a self-employed management consultant for Safeco. In 1961, he joined Pemco, serving as general manager of the insurance companies until 1970, when he was named president. In addition to his position with Pemco, McNaughton is founding director of the Insurance Education Foundation, chairman of Evergreen Bank and chief executive officer of Washington School Employees Credit Union.
Tazue Kiyono Sasaki has been elected chair of the Seattle Cherry Blossom and Japanese Cultural Festival for the 1995-96 event, scheduled for April 26-28, 1996, at Seattle Center. Also elected were: Linda Kodama, vice president; Jane Tsuboi, secretary; and Marianne Paulhamous and Yutaka Sasaki, co-treasurers.
Coinstar Inc., a Bellevue-headquartered company that operates a network of more than 200 coins-to-cash machines in U.S. supermarkets, has named Bruce Coonan national sales director of consumer goods. He will be responsible for expanding the company's relationships with major manufacturers like Campbell's Soup, whose coupons are distributed through Coinstar machines. Coonan's experience in retail and packaged goods industries has included management positions with Colgate Palmolive, Kimberly-Clark, Ralston Purina and Catalina Marketing Corp.
A Woodinville-based collection agency, National Credit Services Inc., has been accepted into membership in the American Collectors Association, as well as its state affiliate, the Washington Collectors Association. ACA is an international trade association which has established professional and ethical standards with which member agencies must comply.

AdCorp has announced the appointment of Pam Tirado as an account executive, overseeing client services in the Redmond company's design, photography, electronic pre-press and printing facility. Tirado previously was director of new business development for Monaghan+Company of Bellevue.
Paul Temple has joined Kirkland-based national publication Canoe & Kayak Magazine as editor-in-chief. Earlier in his career, Temple built a publishing department at Group Health Cooperative of Puget Sound that produced more than 20 newsletters and VIEW, a national award-winning health magazine. He took the editorial helm at Alaska Airlines Magazine in 1984, leaving the company three years to co-found Paradigm Press Inc., where he served as editor-in-chief and CEO, and published KCTS/9 Magazine for Seattle's public television broadcaster. Temple sold his interest in Paradigm in 1991 to develop a new publication and consult with educational organizations.
The Safeco board of directors has announced several staff promotions. Vance Hickin, resident vice president and regional manager for Safeco Insurance Companies' Pacific Southwest Region, has been appointed president of F.B. Beattie, a Safeco affiliate. He has also been named vice president of Safeco Insurance Companies. James Stiegler will replace Hickin as resident vice president and regional manager for the Pacific Southwest Region. And, John Elwell, currently in commercial lines for Safeco Insurance Companies, has been named assistant vice president.
The Salvation Army will serve 500 hungry people Thanksgiving dinner and needs help putting food on the table. The Army also needs daypacks, sleeping bags and winter coats to give out to the homeless. In Seattle, donations may be delivered from Nov. 20 through Thursday morning, Nov. 23 to the Salvation Army William Booth Center at 811 Maynard Ave. S. Donations on the Eastside may be dropped off the Puget Power General Office, 10608 N.E. Fourth St., Bellevue, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Nov. 22. Children will get a chance to explore the behind-the-scenes world of theater at Bellevue Art Museum's hands-on exhibition Celebration Especially for Children: The Art of Theater, running from Dec. 9 through Feb. 4, 1996. Guest curated by Donna Porter, the exhibition will illustrate how a theatrical production emerges from an idea, to a script, into a full production for an audience through a vast array of materials including sets, costumes, props, design, drawings, models and photographs loaned to the museum from Puget Sound production companies. A storytelling area, art studio and temporary performance area will allow visitors to engage in interactive components. Children will be able to construct a small version of a stage, and operate a miniature dimmer board which is used to regulate stage lighting in theater.
