Northwest Cable Advertising

Northwest Cable Advertising has hired Chris Dasef as a retail sales representative at the Snohomish County office in Everett. A recent graduate of Western Washington University, Dasef was previously a sales representative for TCI Advertising Sales in Bellingham.

Jack A. Marshall has started a fire protection consulting business serving building owners, architects, attorneys and the construction industry in Washington, Oregon, California, Montana and Alaska. Women in Communications

The Seattle Chapter of Women in Communications Inc. has published an updated version of its publicity handbook, titled How To Get the Media Attention You Deserve. The 57-page primer contains articles on writing news releases for print and broadcast, submitting photos, establishing contacts and using the Internet. Western Washington Bancorp

Western Washington Bancorp, parent company of Washington State Bank, has opened a financial services subsidiary, WWB Financial Services Inc., and named company Vice President Debbie Long to lead the operation. WWB Financial Services is located within the bank's branch office in Federal Way and offers investment options including self-directed IRA's, mutual funds and annuities.

Birmingham Steel

Birmingham Recycling Investment Company, a subsidiary of Birmingham Steel Corp., has acquired Vancouver, B.C.-based steel scrap collector and processor Richmond Steel Recycling Ltd. from a subsidiary of IPSCO Inc. The acquisition includes some assets of National Metals Corporation Ltd., also located in Vancouver, B.C., and recently acquired by Richmond. Richmond's currently produces approximately 130,000 tons of ferrous scrap annually. The company has been a significant supplier of steel scrap to Birmingham Steel's Seattle mini-mill and will continue to supply feedstock to that operation and other ferrous and nonferrous processors and consumers. Birmingham Steel intends to enter into a joint venture with Simsmetal Ltd., a ferrous and nonferrous metals recycler headquartered in Sydney, Australia, to own and operate the Richmond facilities and collect additional steel scrap in Western Canada and Alaska.

UW Board of Regents

OLYMPIA (AP) -- Gov. Mike Lowry has appointed labor leader Cindy Zehnder to the Board of Regents at the University of Washington. Lowry said the appointment, along with reappointment of regent Mari Clack of Spokane, signaled his continuing commitment to bring diversity to the state's largest university. The appointments also gave Lowry regents a majority on the nine-member board. Since his inauguration three years ago, Democrat Lowry has appointed four women and a minority member, as well as a former three-term Republican governor, Dan Evans. Zehnder, 47, worked with Lowry on the governor's Regulatory Reform Task Force in 1993 and 1994 and has served on the state Personnel Appeals Board and state advisory boards. She is secretary-treasurer of Teamsters Local 741 in King County and directed statewide political action and voter-registration programs for the 60,000-member state Joint Council of Teamsters. Zehnder succeeds business leader David Cohn, who served two terms and did not seek reappointment. Clack, 59, is a businesswoman and was Gov. Booth Gardner's Eastern Washington representative.

The Museum of Flight

Museum of Flight is launching a new marketing partnership with Cole & Weber of Seattle to increase foot traffic and enhance national awareness of new exhibits in the air and space museum, the largest on the West Coast. In 1996, the museum will unveil a permanent air traffic control tower exhibit and a theatre housed within a Boeing 737 fuselage where visitors can view the history of flight. The interactive tower exhibit will highlight the technological advances made in the nation's air safety systems, and will showcase the challenges associated with working in a control tower. The 737 theater will educate visitors about the key scientific and technological mileposts which have impacted commercial air travel.

Cascade Financial Corporation

David W. Duce has been elected vice chairman of Cascade Financial Corp. of Everett. He has served on Cascade's board since 1991 and is chairman of the compensation and personnel committee. Duce has been a partner in the law firm of Duce, Bastian & Peterson since 1984, and is a former member of Senator Henry M. Jackson's Washington D.C. staff.

Lynden

Lynden, a transportation company primarily serving Alaska, has promoted Jon Burdick to executive vice president of operations for the Seattle office. Burdick previously served as vice president, business development, and as president of Lynden Logistics Inc. Mark Anderson, a 20-year veteran of Lynden and its affiliates, will replace Burdick as president of Lynden Logistics. Most recently, Anderson was vice president of the logistics subsidiary.

Seattle University

Class of '97 applicants have until Feb. 1, 1996 to enroll in the Executive Master of Not-for-Profit Leadership program at Seattle University's Institute of Public Service. The 16-month program, which primarily meets on evenings and weekends, is the nation's first masters degree designed specifically for top managers of not-for-profit organizations. It is open to those already in senior nonprofit roles, professionals in other sectors interested in changing careers, and experienced civic volunteers seeking paid employment. Xerox of the Pacific Northwest

Xerox of the Pacific Northwest has named James Barrett document solutions manager, focusing on Docutech products, the company's line of high speed publishing and printing machines. Barrett has been with Xerox since 1985 and has held various sales and sales management positions in the Pacific Northwest. Also, Calvin Nichols has been promoted to manager of customer service operations the Northwest region. Since joining the company in 1976, Nichols has served as field service manager, region service products manager, and region systems manager in Texas, Arizona and California. In 1986, he moved to Seattle and was promoted to district manager of customer service for Washington and Alaska.
