Fred Sexton has been appointed executive director of the Fourth Corner Economic Development group. Sexton served as president and chief executive officer of the Economic Development Corporation of Honolulu for nine years. Prior to that, he was executive director of Mid-America International Agri-Trade Council in Chicago, a regional government food export promotion council. He also was director/deputy director of International Business Division of the Ohio Department of Development, a cabinet-level department charged with the responsibilities of maintaining and improving the economic and business infrastructure of Ohio. In his new role, Sexton will formalize and implement programs for investment recruitment, retention and expansion with emphasis on business climate issues. Based in Bellingham, the Fourth Corner Economic Development group is a nonprofit organization established by several community leaders to develop a approach to economic development that combines the public, private and educational sectors.
Barry Silveira has been promoted to sales manager of TV Mart, a 24-hour shopping and information network operated by Seattle-based Northwest Cable Advertising. Silveira will oversee the TV Mart sales department in the Seattle headquarters and is currently putting together a sales staff for the Tacoma, Everett and Bellevue offices. Previously, he was a retail sales representative.
The Salish Lodge has hired Kathleen Crews to manage the resort's new spa scheduled to open March 1. Crews comes to the Salish Lodge with more than 15 years of experience in the health and fitness industry in the Northwest. Most recently, she was general manager of The Seattle Club Bellevue.
Enterprise, an information technology staffing company serving the Seattle area and other markets nationwide, has changed its name to 1-800-NETWORK. Parent company MacTemps Inc., an international supplier of Macintosh and PC/Windows experts for short and long-term assignments, has renamed the unit to reflect more clearly its focus on providing contract staffing for computer networking. Contractors supplied by 1-800-NETWORK include network administrators, analysts, architects and managers experienced in such areas as Novell Netware, Windows NT, UNIX and TCP/IP.
King County Executive Gary Locke has appointed Kirkland City Councilmember and former Mayor Dave Russell and new King County Councilmember Rob McKenna to fill two King County vacancies on the board of the Regional Transit Authority. The two fill the unexpired terms of Bellevue Mayor Don Davidson and King County Councilmember Bruce Laing, both of whom chose not to seek reelection. Both appointments must be confirmed by the King County Council. Russell is a professor of aerospace engineering at the University of Washington. He just stepped down on Jan. 1 after four years as Mayor of Kirkland. McKenna has been an attorney in corporate practice and is a former member of the Bellevue Alliance for Transportation Solutions. He was elected in November to succeed Laing as King County Councilmember representing District 6.

Seattle-based Swedish Health Services has hired Albert J. Alvarez as executive director of the Foundations -- the fund-raising arm of the organization -- and promoted Lisa Anderson to vice president of human resources. Alvarez comes to Swedish with more than 20 years of experience in fund raising, development, marketing and public relations. For the past three years, he was president of university relations for Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage. Prior to that, Alvarez served in top-level executive positions at Northridge Hospital Foundation in Northridge, Calif. Anderson, who has been director of human resources for Swedish since 1992, came to the company from Careline Inc. of Seattle, one of the largest emergency medical services providers in the nation. She also has served as director of human resources management for Safeco Properties Inc., in Seattle.
World Vision, a relief and development agency which recently relocated its entire operation from Southern California to Federal Way, has hired John Unterreiner as director of spiritual formation. Before joining World Vision, Unterreiner was the director of pastoral care for Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland. In his new position, he will facilitate the spiritual development of the company's 450-plus employees, leading weekly chapel services, helping employees plan devotional times, coordinating World Vision's annual Day of Prayer, and serving as chaplain to agency staff and employees.
The Wing Luke Asian Museum will give a lifetime achievement award at its annual art auction and dinner to Andrew Chinn, a Chinese American watercolor painter of Northwest and traditional Chinese Landscapes. Born in Seattle, Chinn went to China for his early education and returned to Seattle in 1933. He was a founding member of the Chinese Art Club in 1936 and worked as a technical illustrator at Sand Point Naval Base and Bremerton Navy Yard. Chinn worked as an illustrator for The Boeing Co. until his retirement in 1978. He has taught Chinese style watercolor painting since 1945, and still teaches a class at Seattle Central Community College. The museum's annual art auction and dinner, featuring over 60 artworks by premier Northwest artists, will be held on Feb. 17 at 5 p.m. at the Westin Hotel in Seattle. Seattle-based coffee retailer, franchisor and distributor Caffe Appassionato has appointed Gillian Mathews as retail buyer. Mathews is the founder and former owner of Made in Washington, a six-store company selling locally made items for tourists.
