Alaska Sightseeing/Cruise West

Seattle-based Alaska Sightseeing/Cruise West has hired Karen Taylor Brooks and Shannon McKenna as district sales managers. Brooks will be responsible for the Florida market and McKenna will look after the Mid-West market. The firm operates small-ship cruises in Alaska, British Columbia, Puget Sound, the California wine country and on the Columbia and Snake rivers.

Ridgemont Terrace

Jim Wisehart has been appointed administrator of the Ridgemont Terrace Skilled Nursing Center located in Port Orchard. He will oversee operations of the skilled nursing center, assisted living apartment complex, and senior apartments.

Best in the Northwest Awards

The Family Enterprise Institute has named the winners for the "Best in the Northwest," Washington Family Business of the Year Awards. Hill Moving Services of Poulsbo won in the new business category; Rowley Enterprises, Inc., Issaquah, best small business; Alaska Sightseeing/Cruise West, Seattle, best medium-sized business; Continental, Inc., Seattle, best large business; Ben Bridge Jeweler, best old business; and Azteca Restaurant, located at 133 S.W. 158th St. in Burien, received the award for best family service.

Plantscapes, Growning Green

Two Seattle companies, Plantscapes, Inc. and Growing Green Interiors, Inc., have merged forming the largest locally-owned interior and exterior plantscaping firm in the Puget Sound area, Plantscapes. The managers for the new company are Kathie Madsen, Ann Price and Greg Martin.

King County District Court

The King County District Court has elected the presiding and assistant presiding judges for one-year terms beginning Dec. 1, 1996, through Nov. 30, 1997. Judge James Cayce, Aukeen Division, will act as presiding judge. Judge Monica Benton, Seattle Division, will serve as assistant presiding judge.

EvansGroup

EvansGroup has made the following personnel changes. In the accounting department Lora Baker and Monica Fudge have been hired as account payable coordinators overlooking the media department. Alison Jaffe has been hired as billing coordinator. Eric Brown has joined the creative department. In the media department, Heidi Anderson has been promoted to VP/broadcast supervisor, and Rod Jorenby has been named broadcast supervisor; both will be responsible primarily for the media account for PETsMart. Jackie Peter has been promoted to associate director of broadcast and Kirsten Cummings has been promoted to broadcast assistant. Phil Rogan has joined the digital/online/interactive division, also known as the FutureWorks department, as director of technology and Karen Howe has joined as digital production assistant.

Div. I Court of Appeals

The Division I Court of Appeals judges have appointed staff attorney Paris Kallas to a court commissioner position. Kallas will hear and decide motions, screen appeals and recommend cases for published or unpublished opinions. Her appointment was effective October 1.

Foster Pepper & Shefelman

Joseph Lee and Jose Quintana have joined the Seattle firm Foster Pepper & Shefelman as associates. Lee's practice focuses on real estate and land use law. Quintana concentrates his practice in banking and corporate finance.

Virginia Mason

Leslie Lu, M.D. has joined the general internal medicine department at Virginia Mason Medical Center. Lu's interests include cross-cultural medicine and health policies in developing countries. He is involved in the Asian American Clinical Program which addresses the medical concerns of the Asian American community and tries to reduce cultural barriers.

Seattle Crab Company

Seattle Crab Company opened its first restaurant this week in the Northgate area. The concept of offering higher quality food with the convenience of a quick-service restaurant was developed by Arnold Shain who was responsible for Cucina!Cucina! and Hart Brewpub. The menu was created by Ted Furst with advice from former Fullers chef Kathy Casey. Crab is the main item, served with various dipping sauces, as well as other seafood. The executive chef is Andrew Chester Elf and the manager is Wendy Kerb. Paul Baird is president and CEO of Seattle Crab Company. He was president and COO of Skipper's and has 25 years experience in the restaurant business.

Pacific Crest

Kent-based Pacific Crest Cabinets has promoted Randy Krebs to general manager. Krebs previously was the director of sales and marketing for the company.

Age 55+ Employment Workshop

The Age 55+ Employment Resource Center's Advisory Board will sponsor free Job Search Workshops on Nov. 13 at the Seattle Center. The workshops will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Center House in Conference Room B. For more information contact Carl Hicks at (206) 684-0500.
