Wizards of the Coast, the Renton-based company which makes the Magic trading card game, announced it will relocate offices for its Andon Unlimited division to Columbus, Ohio. Andon produces conventions and trade shows for the entire gaming industry. Shows are held throughout the country and that will continue after the move, though Andon's largest show, Origins, will be permanently located in Columbus rather than moving around to different locations. Five Andon employees will move to Ohio and the staff will be expanded to include a graphic artist and a director of marketing and sales. Wizards also has offices in Belgium, Scotland and France.
Business Computer Training Institute (BCTI), a private vocational school, has appointed Jeffrey Hall to president and chief operating officer. Hall formerly served as vice president of accounting and finance and chief financial officer, and treasurer for the company. BCTI offers post-secondary non-degree certificate programs in entry-level computer and business training.
John Burns has been elected as managing partner of the law firm Miller, Nash, Wiener, Hager & Carlsen LLP. He will serve a three-year term. Burns will chair the firm's executive committee and direct its 123 lawyers and 181 support personnel in the firm's offices located in Seattle and Portland.
GTE Telephone Operations, headquartered in Everett, has been named Valarie Shreve as general manager-customer operations. She will oversee operations in Washington and in LaGrande, Oregon. The department is responsible for the installation and repair of telephone service in addition to other operational activities. Ralph Mayfield will replace Shreve as general manager-infrastructure provision.
Jon Olson has joined the Snohomish, Washington, general contracting firm of Kirtley-Cole Associates as controller. Olson will be responsible for accurate payment of subcontractors and suppliers. He will also implement his administrative abilities to help the accounting department run more efficiently.
The Lawyers' Campaign for Hunger Relief (LCHR) has elected the following new board members: Diane Cornell and Maureen Mannis, state attorney's office in Seattle; William Fligeltaub, attorney; Edward Cunningham, chiropractor; Lee Raines, CPA, Beail Raines Gillespie & Gettmann PLLC. LCHR raises funds from the state's legal community and distributes aid directly to five organizations that focus primarily on feeding Washington's hungry children.
U.S. Bancorp Securities, a subsidiary of Portland-based U.S. Bancorp, has named Anthony Wise senior vice president and director of sales and marketing. U.S. Bancorp Securities is a brokerage firm offering a diverse range of products and services helping individuals and families meet their short- and long-term investment goals.
Brian Livingston has been elected as chair of the Magnolia/Queen Anne District Council. Other officers elected were Alex Boris, vice chair, and Bill Blair, secretary. The district council is a coalition of organizations, which currently includes the Queen Anne Community Council, Queen Anne Chamber of Commerce, Magnolia Community Club, Magnolia Chamber of Commerce, Friends of Queen Anne, Queen Anne Concerned Citizens, Seattle Marine Business Coalitions, Coe-Mt. Pleasant Area Block Watch, and 36th District Democrats. As chair of the Magnolia/Queen Anne District, Livingston automatically becomes a voting member of the City Neighborhood Council (CNC). The CNC was established by Seattle City Council resolutions in 1987 and has 13 members, one of whom is elected from each district. The CNC advises the city on its budget and neighborhood planning policies, and submits a recommended list of grants from the Neighborhood Matching Fund to the City Council twice a year. Each district council rates proposals from its area for the city's Neighborhood Matching Fund grants, and advises the city on local policies.
